1. A major country would have to decide to ditch their current currency and go to a crypto. I can't see that happening anytime soon. 2. Crypto would have to become so popular that many businesses accept it and many people start using it. The number would have to be enough that many stop using their countries normal money and only use crypto. The reason it is going to take a while for this to happen is that right now Bitcoin and other cryptos can be exchanged for regular currency like US dollars. Without that ability, crypto might as well be tokens you buy at an arcade. As it gets more and more popular, I can see countries starting to regulate it and fight against it. Government's aren't terribly welcoming to anything that causes them to cede control over the people of their country. Add in the extreme volatility of it and it makes a hard sell to many people. Honestly, I think, so long as we don't blow the world up, there will one day be a world without countries, where everyone is a global citizen and they all use some kind of decentralized cryptocurrency, but that's not going to happen in our lifetime. |
