I have no idea how it will be done in NZ but guess it will be similar to Australia's buy back.

Anyone handing back a gun was paid about 125% what the gun was worth no questions asked, that means if you had a gun.. anyone could grab it and get cold hard cash quickly. ;)

Once the buy back was over, possessing the guns or even just someone having one in your property, meant serious fines and/or jail time for both.

Because anyone presenting a gun was paid for it no questions asked and the rate given was higher than the value, most guns were handed in.

If its left another 200 years you can only imagine the mass killing technology and advances these weapons will have, so it will have to be changed or defined.
