Trump says 'airplanes have become to complex to fly'

https://thehill.com/policy/transport...complex-to-fly

Now I know there are those of you that will support trump no matter what he says but...
This goes to the heart of tech in today's capitalism.
It stems from a rush to get things to market before properly testing them.

The aircraft in question was a Boeing 737 Max 8 that was a redesigned 737 to carry more people and there were plenty of airlines waiting for it with prepaid orders.

So the 1st problem was over promising delivery of a yet to be produced aircraft. That creates a rush to get it to market no matter what. Cause you are loosing money.

Now the redesign forced Boeing to change the engine to get more thrust for more lift for the additional weight.
The engine they chose sat to low on the aircraft.
Rather than extend the landing gear, they chose to redesign the mounting to the wing and the attack angle of the engine for clearance.

This drastically changed the take-off procedure of the aircraft to point it's nose at a higher angle beyond any normal 737 that would make even a vetern 737 pilot a bit uneasy.

To remedy this, they wrote some computer code in the control system to make sure if the attack angle of the craft was to high, it would automatically correct that angle and bring the craft to the correct angle.

So what likely happened is one of 3 things.
1- there is something wrong with the computer code ?
2- there is a problem with a sensor that determines the angle of the aircraft or it is reading out of range
3- some combination of the above.

EDIT: I should spell this out a bit more...
If the angle was determined to be to high, the computer would make the correction.
In the case the computer was over correcting, the pilot could turn it off.
Problem here is you don't have the altitude yet to have time to turn it off and make a manual correction.
--

As we see these type things all the time but is never fully pointed out that a rush to get stuff to market always has 'unfound bugs' and in some cases, these can be fatal.

They are not to complex, just not well thought out and only because profits were more important than safety.

So, I'm not really pouncing on trump any more than to say, he knows nothing about it. He is not helping with his comments. We can not protect the airlines from bad deeds. It seems to be a diversion from truth.

But I am saying this stuff has got to stop before everything is a beta test where your life is concerned. The best way to go forward is to make sure this has a high cost attached to it so they will not take the short cut again.

Making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is too complex for Trump and the only thing he can "drive" is a golf cart

Plus it's difficult to overturn a golf cart when you add 350lbs to its center mass.

The last I checked, Einstein would not work for those wages.
Older is better would not sit well with the airlines who want to carry more folks for less money. Bring down SpaceX and replace with Apollo ? What will that do for the Space Force ?

Anyway... Don't let anyone make this out to be just one more blip in tech.
This was avoidable.

What he's saying is 100% true. When pilots can't turn off an automated system you have a real problem. In the UK the News is revealing that the flight simulators they use to teach pilots different types of aircraft missed out this vital part.

Neither of the countries that have had crashes, would I fly with local airlines no matter what plane was used.

Most of the world have grounded the 737's, seems a bit knee jerk, I'm guessing the insurance industry has spoken. Reality is no one knows if the two are connected, to me the Ethiopian one sounded more like a bomb had gone off. Boeing must be freaking.

Well Paul,
If you read my explanation of it,
This only effects take-off.
The safety measure is to disable the attitude control limit.
You first have to determine what the problem is to know that is what you need to correct.
And have the time to do so while you are at 80% thrust.

If this would have been well tested, it would not have been a issue. They would have found it beforehand.
It's not a matter of old vs new. It's not to tech'y.
If they would have just extended the landing gear over changing the pitch program of the engines, none of this would be needed.
It would have taken to long in their eyes, tha'ts all.

I don't think that is related to others. Sometimes I think they hide terror attacks unless definitive.

It's totally the opposite, humans can't drive cars, let alone a modern commercial jet aircraft. There's 200x the airline traffic there was 30 years ago for starters. These thing are designed so a pilot from.. Ethiopia or even budget Indonesian carrier Lion Air can operate them. Put humans in control and I guarantee you both countries have a tenfold increase in plane mishaps.

If you haven't noticed yet Trump has to make everything about "HIM". The plane crash was taking away from his news coverage so the sociopath had to inject himself into it..

Trump is no expert and should have nothing to say about it. No Paul, Trump is wrong and so are you. Just because people are afraid of technology doesn't make it bad All it does is show how misinformed scared people are.

And that is the point to 'his style populism' (not really populism) is that it completely plays against fear as it is understood by the layman.

I pay no attention to political adds that is not the candidate themselves speaking it.
they are all playing fear.
Just like many of the advertisements for health, safety and security products.

But here we have a situation that we will not truly know until the data flight recorder is recovered, but is pretty clear that legislation is needed to correct. Not really new legislation but penalties a bit higher for risking safety for profits.

But by changing the argument, it will be overlooked, in the US anyway.

Is Trump right when he listens to the head of Boeing tell him not ground the 737s? The he gets his FAA administrator to issue a message that says "everything is ok with the Boeing 737 Max 8". The head of Boeing is a regular visitor at Mar a Lago. This is why the US is the only country in the civilized (and uncivilized) world to keep the planes flying. A plane full of Americans will die if this plane is not grounded and if you think the investigations into Trump are bad now, you just fucking wait. The democrats in congress will be filing murder charges against the president.

Now Trump is attacking Americas airline construction companies like Boeing.

After attacking Americas auto industry, Harley Davidson, Americas steel industry, America's farmers, the list is just too long.

It is technically not possible to extend the landing gear (on this almost 60 year old construction) but airlines pressured Boeing into adapting engines that are too large.

They solved it by moving them more forward which destroyed the balance in certain situations and made the plane stall.

They put in software that was supposed to solve that but told no one about it.

So yes, Boeing is to blame for this on several levels.

The software fix for the nose down issue was delayed for 5 weeks because of Trump's 5 week government shutdown that got him nothing.

This last plane didn't get the fix and crashed because of Donald Trump

Ethiopian Airlines crash came after US shutdown delayed Boeing 737 Max fixes

It was Donald Trump's shutdown. He is directly responsible for the deaths of those people. As directly as if he had actually been at the controls.

No one cares because it's Ethiopians...let's see how much everyone cares once it happens to us.

not everything is a Trump thing (as much as I dislike the guy).

I don't see how the shutdown made Boeing fuck up their 737 construction years ago, try to fix it with software, don't tell people about that software and now try to fix it again with more software (which needs to be tested and certified before it rolls out).

I don't even know if that updated software is already available - but the shutdown surely didn't close down the Boeing factory.

The only connection could be that the FAA as certifying authority shut down their work in that time - if that was the case someone please post proof.

There were talks between the regulators and Boeing which held up the implementation of the software. The shutdown stalled those talks for 5 weeks.

Fly-by-wire is a system that replaces the conventional manual flight controls of an aircraft with an electronic interface.
The pilots are playing a video game. No actual mechanical control of wings and throttle.

complex???

it´s just a trim tab like you get on a boat that would adjust the nose, raising it from heading into a dive.

The only difference is, most pilots have always used the manual stick and now it´s a trim tab on the stick...

so many deaths could be due to a simple fact that the pilots weren´t informed it´s easy to deal with when the system puts you into a decent

fuck you, you´re an ignorant fuck!

the boeing plane´s have a problem since using a LEAP engine and the system overrides the pilot...

if the pilots trained to use this plane, the crashes wouldn´t have happened!

Now you fuck off out of here, it´s you that doesn´t have a fucking clue, cunt!

It would be my guess that they grounded them without flack from Boeing and airlines because nobody would fly on them.

Me too. At least with hydraulics you know the pilot has a physical connection to the control surfaces.

I used to see a lot of talk about how aircraft had double or triple redundant systems, with multiple black boxes that were made by different manufacturers so that if one went crazy due to a flaw the others could override it by consensus... but based on what I've read about major aircraft accidents I doubt this is the case.

brushed up???

This is world wide & very serious news, this second accident isn´t an accident, it´s pilot negligence, but the pilots can´t be blamed when the companies & boeing haven´t mentioned addition training is needed....

Besides, You´re trying to cover your ignorance!

OMG, how can you get away with saying i´m the idiot, You´re the idiot fuck head! Face to face, you´d look so stupid right now, i´d be in your face saying how much of a bitch you were and you´d better sit down and shut the fuck up.

It´s you that didn´t know what I was chatting about, when I mentioned the electronic trim tabs on the stick, & how they needed to be used to pull the nose up rather than manually...

and then had the audacity to say I had no clue...

sit down bitch!
