The two suspects being questioned in the Jussie Smollett case are now under arrest, police said.

The men were arrested Friday in connection with an alleged attack on Empire actor Jussie Smollett.

Police have not released any charges yet.

But police said while there is no evidence documenting the alleged attack, there is also no evidence to say it is a hoax. They said Smullett is being cooperative at this time and continues to be treated as a victim, not a suspect.

The two men were seen on surveillance video near where Smollett told police he was attacked on Jan. 29. The suspects being questioned by detectives in the case are brothers who worked on Empire with Smollett.

Police raided their home on Wednesday, the same day police met them at O’Hare International Airport, as they were returning from a trip to Nigeria.

Gloria Schmidt, the attorney representing those two men in the case, said they have been in custody at Area Central detective headquarters since Wednesday night.

“When they first learned about what happened to him they were horrified. This is someone they know. This is someone they’ve worked with, so they don’t want to see somebody go through that,” Schmidt said.

Schmidt said police detained her clients Wednesday evening at Customs at O’Hare. The two men were returning from a trip to Nigeria when officers raided their family’s home on the North Side.

Pictures from the raid show the front door busted off its frame, items thrown across the living room, bedroom doors damaged and clothes tossed everywhere.

Police left behind an inventory list. Some of the items seized include a black face mask hat, an Empire script, phone, receipts, a red hat and bleach.

Smollett has told police two men attacked him in Streeterville around 2 a.m. on Jan. 29, as he was heading home to his apartment. He said they yelled racial and homophobic slurs at him, poured some type of chemical on him and even put a rope around his neck.

The actor and singer gave his first public account of the attack in an interview on Good Morning America.

“When the police came, I kept the clothes on. I kept the rope,” Smollett said. “I mean, it wasn’t like wrapped around, but yeah it was around because I wanted them to see. I wanted them to see what this was.”

Smollett, 36, is black and openly gay.

Investigators have said the alleged attack was not recorded on surveillance video, but police released a grainy image of the two men who were in the area at the time of the alleged crime.

The whole thing about having the noose still around his neck when cops arrive is
what made me pause.

Yet, it makes little sense for him to get other people to help stage the attack that nobody saw.
Most fake crime reports that I here about are done by a single person.

I will consider the possibility that these two guys did attack him out of jealousy
or homophobia.

Lets see what happens when the suspect start talking.
If they confess and don't say Smollette was in on it; I probably would believe it.
But if they cop a plea for light a sentence and then blame Smollette then I will wonder.

The thing that initially made me start thinking Jussie Smollett was in on is that he didn't fully release his phone records to the cops for "privacy" reasons. everyone knows cops can get your phone records in an instant with an open case.


This could very well be a possibility. He's friends with one of the guys so he'd know the guys voice right? Didn't he say the attackers were white? What a mess.

The police asked for his phone; not phone records. Big difference.

That didn't mean anything to me because people have their own nude photos and shit on the phone.
The cops can get the phone records from the phone company, so their request is inconsiderate of victims rights.

There was at least one case I heard of where a cop printed nude photos off of a
victims phone and shared them.

At first they did, and I agree with you, I'd resist giving my phone for the same reasons you listed.

Later they asked him to supply his phone records. My guess is they already had his phone records because they can get those in an instant in an investigation. I think they knew that he had called his friends and they were testing him to see if he'd comply with their request. If he didn't it would indicate he was in on it.

He took a week to give them his phone records and when he did they were heavily redacted and did not include calls made during the time of the attack.

I thought it odd that the bleach poured on him didn’t cause any skin abrasions. I may have made a mention of it here. He had minor injuries for someone attacked severely. The MAGA comment was from central casting.

He wanted publicity so he’d not be written off of Empire. Now he has enough mistrust to not work again.

Redacted phone calls caused suspicion. No cameras or video working, MAGA, noose, bleach with no burns and virtually no injuries caused major video suspicion of doubt in my mind.

The two guys were suspected why? Did a cop notice that the injuries were minor when usually there are bruises and kick marks and defense wounds? Were there phone calls between all three, money deposited in their accounts, a sales clerk noticed them buying rope and bleach and called the cops?
