I think the NRA was infiltrated a few years before Butina. The NRA has been adversarial to the majority of Americas interest since 2010. Money to political campaigns, money for disinformation campaigns to folks 'like' Cambridge Analytica, Issue oriented adds of disinformation,, money given to other NON-Profits where guns are not the issue but issue adds to target foes of the same.
Then there is back channel money and favor exchange ??

AMI managed to keep money off the table and is in this form of 'favor exchange'.
