Hey Audiophiles: Can you solve this problem?

I am a freakin' genius...

A friend of mine went nuts and setup a beautiful home theatre. Looks amazing, sounds great. Watched a movie, oooh'ed and aaah'ed at the earth-shattering kabooms, etc.

EXCEPT: 1 of his 2 sub woofers had this bumpbumpbumpbump sound (A thump sound that played about 5-6 times per second). It was too low to hear when music or movies were playing, but it was definitely there and could be heard throughout the room when quiet.

He has fiber-optic Internet, fibre-optic audio from TV to processor, HDMI 2.1, all the latest and greatest. Internet connected everything.

His Sub Woofers are wired and self-powered.

Techs went to his house after the installation and could not find the problem.

I figured it out in 5 minutes, hearing nothing more than that sound, and with no more information than I provided above.

Can you guess what the problem was?

Dunno but I had one of those "professional" installers tell me I couldn't do something with my setup and I looked at him like WTF? I hooked the shit up myself, showed him how good it sounded and sent him on his way.

Something like a cellphone causing interference? Was more common with older cell networks, but I've seen it still happen with some new systems.

that or the sub turning off when no lower frequency present. I had that problem years ago with a cheap powered sub but I never bought a nicer one cause back then I lived in an apt and a nicer sub would've bothered neighbors.

Had he had a crafty poo in one of the subwoofers?

First guess would be IM from the TV to the processor. Although, that would only be present when there is payload on the fiber. Second guess would be incorrect setup of the processor. Third guess would be the fiber TX/RX.

Is the fiber net optomized from point A toZ?
