It does't matter what side of the issue you are on... Nike now has the biggest ad campaign of the year.

The guy makes some good points but he also points out something that happens more often than not. The factory pays workers $2 a day. If we force them to pay $4 a day they close down and move the factory somewhere else where they can pay less and now those workers are making $0 a day. However, many companies do this no matter why wages go up. For example, there are situations involving Nike where workers at one of their factories wanted to unionize so they shut the factory down. In short, when we get to that "ratchet up" part he talks about and wages do increase, the companies move to the next country where they can pay less.

I'm not bashing capitalism, I'm just saying to argue that sweatshops are a good thing gives me a queasy feeling. The main reason companies hire sweatshops is because they are cheap, once they stop being so, the companies move on. Maybe some people are helped out and do have better lives, but many end up just being exploited.

Just read that article.
"A new report from Edison Trends says Nike’s online sales grew 31% from Sunday through Tuesday of Labor Day weekend this year. That’s notably better than last year’s 17% seasonal increase."

So that says the sales increase happened from Sept. 2nd to Sept. 4th.

BUT...the Kapernick deal wasn't ANNOUNCED until Tuesday Sept. 4th.

FAKE NEWS

I'd like to see how their sales are doing NOW after Kapernick is actually a factor. That news article was just totally dishonest from what I can find.

FAKE NEWS
There was news out about it before the 4th. Kaepernick himself tweeted the picture and talked about it on the 3rd and there was even other "leaks" before that. The actual official launch wasn't until the 4th, but it was news before that.

Not. It was common knowledge and a topic of heavy debate on the 3rd and officially announced on the fourth so the campaign was out there 2 of the 3 days of those sales totals.

Like Robbie, I would like to see what happens next. Do those sales increases hold out for another several days or do they go down.

A dude that is making everybody talk about Nike; but some how it's not working out for Nike, according to the people who can't stop talking about Nike.
But prosecuting people for killing Black people is what he was talking about himself.
But he did it without talking and he was just kneeling and Trump got mad and called everybody a Son of a bitch.

The biggest market for new balance are blacks in the Delaware, Maryland, Virginia area.

I also wonder what sales for EVERYTHING were during the Labor Day weekend.

Were sales nationwide up from last Labor Day with the economy running at full steam?

Also...watching the Wall Street Journal business report today, they said that Nike sales have been way down for the last few years.
So if Nike sales were already low...and this year they rose 14% on Labor Day 2018 over Labor Day 2017 (17% Labor Day rise last year, 31% this year)...then it just means they did a little bit better in low sales.

I'd wonder about the actual numbers compared to the past (before the economy crashed and then stagnated for 8 years). My guess would be that they are still super-low.

They are betting that being "edgy" by using Kapernick will pay off and get them back to being "cool" again.
Might work. We'll see.

I'm sceptical of this news btw
Very hard to measure roi on ad campaigns and virtually impossible to do it in almost real time like this. I'm not surprised Nike made the claim though. Of course.

As far as the actual subject...and not your pathetic attempt at online mind-reading...

I think that as far as the NFL goes, they should just stop playing the National Anthem before the games. Problem solved.

As far as Nike goes, I am interested to see if the ad campaign with Kapernick helps or hurts them. It has hurt their stock so far. But that could all change with good sales.

The only thing I can tell from my own experience is: Military veterans don't like the "kneeling" during the national anthem. Especially the older ones. I saw that first hand last year here in Vegas in a sports book on a strip casino. There was a convention of vets from the Vietnam war...and when I went to the bar there was a lot of loud conversation about how pissed off they were about it.
They aren't Nike's target audience of course. But I'm sure they all have family members who are and don't like it either.

At the gym (I go to the LVAC gyms here in Vegas) I hear a lot of locker room talk about it as well. Haven't heard even one positive comment about kneeling. It's all negative. And that is from Nike's target demographic: Young athletic minded men. White, black, Hispanic, and Asian...the conversations are never in favor of kneeling.

So we will see. Maybe it will work. Or maybe a dumbass on GFY will tell me that I am "desperate" soley based on giving my opinion on a subject that doesn't affect me one way or another.

Still can't figure out what that was all about... lol

The sales "surge" was because of labor day discount sales.

I'm sure sales/stock will go up. People get fooled into thinking buying shoes made by kids make them cool and better athletes.

You can make the same argument for globalisation.

It always amuses me when the dullards witter about "Globalisation" being some great evil. "Soros and the evil globalists".

The undeniable truth is that globalisation brought billions of Asians out of poverty and malnutrition. In return the West enjoys a fabulous standard of living.

Asia was as poor as Africa 50 years ago. Now capitalism and globalisation has created tiger economies.

Churchill said that Democracy is the least worst political system, Capitalism and globalisation is the least worst of the socio-economic systems. It is not perfect, but it is the best of available options. Bashing it is silly, working to improve it and iron out the imperfections is the only sensible option.

BUT...the Kapernick deal wasn't ANNOUNCED until Tuesday Sept. 4th.
