STP, The Cult, Bush concert review

So I went to the STP, The Cult and Bush show last night.

STP, opened up with new lead singer Jeff Gutt. Was sort of like seeing a really good STP cover band. The band was great however...Jeff Gutt, who can sing and sounds almost identical to the albums with Weiland, messed up the lyrics on one song and the band had to adjust. They played a couple new songs and they were actually pretty good. With as much as the other band mates had to put up with Scott, I hope Jeff Gutt helps them out. Weird though, Gutt is almost a carbon copy of Weiland without the shitty concert performances. I watched some of STP's last acts and it was sad watching Scott perform. Good luck to STP.

The Cult has been around since the early eighties, and are just as relevant as any newer band in the alternative rock genre. Ian has to be what, in his sixties? Still has the chops, and has a full head of long hair. His mic had cut out during the show, and he threw it on the ground in disgust, then the screen behind the band showed the operating system and then went blue for the rest of the show. Ian said Tampa had shitty dirt weed, and the crowd seemed to groan a little. They played several songs that I had never heard before, but played most of their bigger hits. One down point, is the drummer was off on his drum hits a few times. The Cult is still kicking, and worthy of buying a ticket to their show.

Bush, put on a great fucking show. They sounded excellent, and didn't miss a beat. I was actually way more impressed then I expected. I have been to shows where the lead singer comes out into the crowd, but Rossdale, took it a step further and not only went out into the crowd but went all the back into the grass seats, all the way back to the top fence, and just snaked his way throughout the entire seating areas, never missed any vocals and the crowd went nuts. The music was spot on and sounded incredible. There are a few songs they play that have been absolutely beaten to death on the radio, but hearing them live, was a way different experience and very enjoyable. I was moved.

They are on tour.. check it out. I got the tickets for free but beers were $15 LOL.

Always was a big Cult fan.

Matter of fact the drummer from the Cult who played on the "Electric" album (Les Warner) played drums for me for 2 months in my band here in Vegas last winter when our drummer had to leave town for family business.
It was very cool playing with him!

Having said that...I was excited a few years back to take Claudia Marie with me to see The Cult in concert at The Pearl Theater here in Vegas.
She didn't know much about them (she was only 14 years old when they released "Sonic Temple") and I hyped up what a tremendous frontman that Ian Astbury was.

Instead...he was super lame. He could barely hit any of the notes in the songs. And he just stood there with sunglasses on the entire concert half-heartedly croaking the vocals.

Huge disappointment.

Billy Duffy however was just as good a guitarist as I knew he would be.
Always loved his tone and licks on the harder rock songs that the Cult did (Love Removal Machine, Wildflower, and the entire Sonic Temple album)

Yes, the guitarist was on the money. I watched a youtube video of the cult at recent live show, and it went about the way you just described. He did a lot better at the show I just went to but he had a couple moments.

I haven't seen that many bands live, but The Cult is one of them, at the Brixton Academy in 1994 (I think). Would have loved to hear what they sound like now.

They were $12 just last year. Yea, it is ridiculous. It's the main reason I don't go to too many concerts anymore. At least not at that venue.
