Anyone Use A Soda Maker?

I'm researching for a compact soda maker machine. I want one using 8gm co2 chargers and uses any brand of flavoring. Friend is buying it but needs to know which one. SodaStream uses big chargers, iSoda looks good but email bounces, and others seem to be overpriced or oversized.

I need personal recommendations. Affiliate links are okay as long as you give an honest review and not "it works great" so you can get 2% commission on the $50 sale. If you need a buck so badly, shut off the computer to save electricity ;)

I use an old fashioned seltzer bottle and various syrups that I find or sometime's I use canned seltzer since once the seltzer bottle is charged up it loses it's fizz pretty quick.

I get 12oz cans of seltzer and that works well.

SodaStream is pretty good. But the carbonation isn't quite the same as commercial producers - large bubbles v. small. Also, the large CO2 refills aren't cheap.

How much do they cost? A case of 24 Coca-Cola's costs about $3.99 when they are on sale which is pretty often. Will a single CO2 canister make 24 drinks and if so, how much do they cost?

I looked at SodaStream and Big Boss. You can buy disposable co2 chargers, 40/$20 on Amazon. I was wondering about buying seltzer in cans and flavoring it so might try that first.

2MuchMark, CocaCola is nasty. I’m a Pepsi girl but want different flavors.

I’ve looked for a non-co2 machine but they’re limited. I want reviews in case I go for a known machine. Compact is vital since I don’t have a ton of room.

Thanks. Keep them coming.

Yeah happened to me as well. It was neat at first then i started questioning the ingredients in the syrups.. then i started considering making my own... then i figured what the hell am i doing at this point? Bottom line is if you have to make your own to save money you are probably drinking too much of it. I am not against it, i'll have a diet coke with dinner and have no issues with it occasionally I just think it s a horrible thing to make and drink in excess.

It’s not to save money. I like different flavors, not the regular stuff. I also want sugar free but with Splenda or aspartame, not Stevia, saccharine or others.

I’m still seriously thinking of the seltzer water and flavorings. Been too sick to research it much but next week I’ll get to it. I have flavorings with Splenda so this would be the easiest way.

I got my homemade ice cream machine today from Amazon. Haven’t opened it yet but commercial ice cream is full of air and stabilizers. Part of it’s the money; unique, sugarfree flavors are $8/pint and more. $64/gallon is a bit pricey. It’s cream and flavor, not cream and liquid gold.

A decent lemonade with fresh oranges, lemons, fruit, raspberries, you names it, just add your proper carbonated water with natural flavors

A glass at night will be okay. If it causes flatulence, so be it! Research so far shows club soda and flavorings works well. I looked for a seltzer maker but they need co2. I need a machine that doesn’t use co2

I avoid fruit juices. Besides the sugar content, the citric acid from fruit isn’t good for your intestinal tract. It can cause other issues above that area.

Almost solved. I found one on sale for $10; I can afford that. Bottles are $6.99 each and I need two; next month I can afford that. Eight g co2 cartridges are $14/10 or less in quantity; bff is buying those.

Issue? $24.73 shipping is beyond my budget. iSoda Mini has great reviews, is compact and easy to use and I'm allowed to store the co2 if not in tanks.

There are sites selling them at $25ish with cheaper shipping but one is in China, another seems shady and others aren't making me feel secure.

It kills me remembering buying things for $30k and not blinking, just writing a check or pulling out the Black card. Now I need to save to buy $13.98/shipping for two bottles.

But I found what I want and just need patience or a rich benefactor willing to hire me! I need to roll into a mall, setup a table with "donations needed for health care" and a bucket. If asked I'll say if I don't get soda I'll die

If you like generic flavors with various chemicals as sweeteners. If you can run to the store if you have none left. Otherwise, you go back to to the olden days, when things were healthier and cheaper and tasted better.

Quality choice

Yes, I understand that most would like to enjoy soda etc once in a while, but at least 90% of your cold drinks should be water.

I expect most to make much healthier (aka at least MUCH less sugar) than cola.

Not to mention you can make variety of interesting tastes (I am just thinking out loud as never owned soda machine).
So it is not (only) about money.

you not have faygo in your parts? They are based out of detroit but they have like 100 flavours and all available in diet last I checked. It's even CHEAP heh I lived off those when I was doing low carb diets for extended periods.

There is no flavored "soda" in the US groceries anymore? Then I was there, I was able to buy a normal clear water with CO2. I don't think the situation has changed there since that time. I have a supermarket right in my apartments building and there is about 10 sorts of clear "soda" water w/o any flavors.

You can make it as strong as you want, Happy with mine. Used to have the cartridge ones yrs ago, this is far superior.

Walmart has a $15 Soda Maker, lots of people do this as an alternative to plain water.
in EU and South America Restaurants they always ask you if you want water with or without gas, America hasn't caught on..
Carbonated water may benefit digestion..

I saw that online. I might head out there next week to look at it. I'm negotiating with the company for the model I want.

I read lots of information about each model. Carbonated water isn't harmful and the additives and stabilizers added to store soda is not healthy. I'm not getting it for health though. I have different tastes most of the time. Cherry limeade, vanilla cream, chocolate raspberry... can't get that in diet soda with Splenda.
