Ever Had An EKG?

Went for my first one while conscious. I had many when in a coma. I was told it would take twenty minutes, hurt a little, and try to stay calm.

It took one minute to hook up the leads, one minute to run the scan, one minute to remove the leads. No pain or discomfort, no trauma, no big deal.

Doctor came back in two minutes, read results, said all was good, scheduled an ultrasound of the heart in March, and that's it.

Didn't sleep last night due to worry over nothing. Heart damage didn't show, extra 'lub dub' not detected despite other physicians assistant claiming so. Ultrasound will go deeper to assess damage.

I'm no longer listening to people who tell the horror of medical tests. Having blood checked weekly hurts; this was easier than eating.

I'm curious if others have had the test.

Yes, about 10 years ago. I was told I have sinus arrhythmia. Apparently it’s fine.

Yea was a breeze, just a shame, doctors today in the so-called free world don't have much knowledge outside their own education.

Yep, was fine.

We create our own horrors. Take doctors "concern" with grain of salt. That "concern" will do more damage to you than any actual real issue.

Also cost me $2k. With good insurance. Yay.

Yeah, loads of times but always for free on the NHS...

I have so much wrong with me, I think that sometimes doctors just invent tests to give me as they have run out of well known ones they can perform.

My body, according to professionals, is in a 'miraculous condition' - Sounded good at first until I realized that really meant it was a miracle that I was still going !

i had one and kept reading the instrument readout. Was convinced i was going to die because google...met my friend who is a doctor at basketball and he said great..lol
Google told me i am likely to die, what they left out is that that is only if my resting heart beat goes down to some ridiculously low level

while agreeing it´s not painful, the tests always take 5 to 10 mins, as the ECG is a exactly this, a long look at the heart rhythm.

Maybe your time flew by, but it certainly wasn´t just a min to run the scan

Had an ultra sound recently after my Dr told me i had had a heart attack while doing a routine medical stethoscope test. WTF i never felt any pain !!! So he said it's not unusual to have what they call a silent heart attack. This scared the shit out of me, i mean i fucking almost crapped myself. He set up an ECG which he did twice and said he wanted me to go get an Ultra Sound test.

A few sleepless days later i went to a cardiologist who's assistant gave me yet another ECG and then the Ultra Sound test. They push the sensor into you stomach and point it up to your heart then they place it at the base of your throat and aim it down to the heart. Its uncomfortable and you are covered in KY jelly but only took about 30 minutes in all. Then they ask you to go get something to eat and come back in 2 hours for the results. This is when you meet the actual cardiologist, who gives you the news.

In my case my Dr was wrong and there was no sign of any heart issues, it was a case of an over abundance of caution on his part. At first i was pissed he had put me through days of worry but later i came to realize its way better to be safe than sorry.. And like others i got a bill for $2400, my share of the $12,000 they charged for the 60 minute consultation and tests?

That is the reason why I don't go to any doctor ...

You should sue your doctor for damages.

Yep about 15 years ago when i live in CA my PSA (a notoriously inaccurate blood test) shot up to 14 from a normal 2. They told me i needed a prostate biopsy, which was a pain in the ass, literally!

Came back positive for cancer, My Dr said if i do nothing i had probably 10 years to live! I went to see a Urologist who told me i should have my prostate removed even though the Gleeson score was very low. Like most guys i procrastinated for years and then had another biopsy test in Maine, they found nothing, all negative. Then two years ago had a 2 Tesla MRI which is supposed to be the latest and greatest, results all negative. Had i followed the Urologist recommendation i would have had the operation and possibly suffered the side effects of leakage and loss of errection all for nothing.
15 Years later im fine.

I think i will do a complete check up for the first time. The price starts at 300 euro to 750 euro for a complete check up in Thailand. And that is the price you pay, no need for Insurance.

EKG shouldn't hurt at all, you can start worrying if they book you for a spinal tap/lumbar puncture ...

Being a Brit i could go back to the UK, but to be eligible for an NH treatment i would have to live there for 6 months as i have been out of the country for 22 years now. Id still get free treatment but who has 6 months to spend waiting and if it was an emergency you may not have 6 months left to wait ?
I agree 100% that US medical costs are ridiculous.

an ultrasound will hurt a small amount, it is just that most techs push the probe in too far. My wife is an ultrasound tech, and I have had about 20 scans by her and her friends when she was in school. The only pain with that is that area is a sensitive but is not anything to worry about. Just take your thumb and push it in under your breast tissue - its a sensitive area.

an ultrasound will also take a bit longer, at a hospital if they do a full protocol ~ 20
to 30 minutes - if it is a quick and sleey place like 10 to 15 mins

The nurse who took me agreed it took just one minute. And, she said that?s normal unless you?ve had a heart attack before.

That sounds not that bad. He said I?d be on the table and I asked how I?d get there. (No Hoyer). Then he said it would be done while I sit in my chair. I?m scheduled for 1:30pm so after lunch. I?ll leave and come back the next day as I may not be able to sit up for two more hours plus the thirty minute ride back.

If I?m still kicking after ten years, I think I?m okay. If I survived the endocarditis and the coma with a 15% chance of survival, I?m okay. But in retrospect, if the damage I had was anything to be concerned about, wouldn?t the hospital have suggested cardiologist appointments after nearly five months of hospitalization? And no heart meds given?

I see a neurologist every three months, PCP every eight weeks, but this is my second visit with a cardiologist in ten years. I know I?m trying to justify why I shouldn?t worry .., Y?all have helped, thank you. Stories i got were horrifying yet everyone, mostly, says one minute is normal.

I haven?t Googled this and won?t as my situation differs since most people don?t end up paralyzed at first. A nurse practitioner told me the lump on my finger was indicative of a heart blockage. When I told her it wasn?t under the tip but near the bottom, as she saw, she said heart blockage Google told me it wasn?t and I checked ten medical sites. All stated AT THE TIP only yet the ?professional? diagnosis differed. My doctor said she was an embarrassment to the profession.

You read so many medical errors that it?s scary. Prostate to lumps, doctors don?t know it all. They told my mom I?d never move a limb again. I type that with my hand while moving my legs and moving my toes (but it hurts). Medicine has come so far yet has a long way to go.

Thanks again. Sorry so many have heart issues. At least we can compare notes! One minute EKG is normal 😋

The cardiologist has it done in his office but he?s one of the top two cardiologists in our area, so that doesn?t worry me. The hospital is about 1.5 miles away if I run into problems.

I?m very sensitive due to the pain I?m in but I?m on Morphine twice a day so pain shouldn?t last too long. I have an extra Oxy boost if needed. 10-15 minutes of discomfort..., oh well
