So the domain makes $7500 per year in typein traffic and sells for over $1 million, it obviously doesn't add up. The domain itself is okay, but if you have 1.4 million you can get much better brandable domains for less and spend the rest on branding and traffic.
of course its not worth that much but it comes down to, a guy like rick has no need to accept 'what its worth'. he can throw any price out there, take it or leave it. for whatever reason the buyer wanted it bad enough to pony up the cash. i don't see why people are so surprised.

That has to be one of the biggest fucking moronic stories I've read tonight.

These are all propaganda bullshit reports made by domain brokers, aimed at losers to get them to buy domain names.

There is NO FUCKING WAY IN A MILLION YEARS xxxvideos.com sold for a million bucks.

You people are toooo gullible and believe everything you read.

Adult domain names today are worthless.

Here, you think this domain is worth over a million???

Here are the stats: Xxxvideos.com Traffic, Demographics and Competitors - Alexa

Most popular in Indonesia... and we all know those Indonesians love to buy porn!

I think if some poor sucker bought it for $1,000 that would be a killing.

Neither one is in the biz of reporting bullshit.

XXXvideos.com is no doubt valuable, even if current use is not the most optimal.

Porno.com past revenue is legit too. In the early days this traffic was worth around $200 CPM.
Slav, I'm sure at this very moment Rick is stressing over how to justify his actions and price gotten, to all the detractors here

BS or not, 3DVRPorn I've been holding for almost 6 years is not leaving my hands for 'much less'. Yes, right now it has less provable value but that is the trick, buy cheap today what should have traffic/seo value tomorrow.
While I was buying names 'like this', it was not on many folks radar.

As many have said, revenue is not what it was for parking, but what is unreal traffic worth to you if you can make a hefty profit from a more worldwide audience than it was 15 years ago.
Extreme traffic has value. Easy SEO has value. How much do you pay for traffic per visit now ? Just do the math.
Pay me now, or pay me latter.

But I think his reasoning for selling it now is just the fact that it has been a depreciating asset for a few years now for revenue.
You would never sell a appreciating asset so cheap.

All is fair in love and war and the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Hah I did not know about the Chinese numbers thing but makes sense. Wish I had registered 1234567.com

Let's not overlook the possibility here that the buyer had some - ahem - questionable revenue - he had to turn legitimate, shall we say? I know of Italian moguls and Arab sheiks who drop 200k for a 'private' video shoot with pornstars over a party weekend that will never see the light of day. These days, some people have more money than they know what to do with.

its either a money launder or an inflated tax deduct but no way did anybody pay 1.4mil or any mil for a vanity domain name...I am not being jelly, not trying to diss rick schwarz...just pointing out that the xxxvideos.com domain name aint worth more than 5-10K realistically...out of 100 gtld-s xxxvideos is free to reg in 61...I did not bother checking the others I just did a bulk search...it is just the way it is, not my opinion but common sense...

I know.

I would understand use of the word 'Mickey' as in the Disney Mickey but Miki?

Actually, even if you registered MickeyHouse as in the House of Mouse you'd likely be sued and prevented form using it anyway.

also if it was a private sale and buyer wanted to remain undisclosed, last thing he needed was an ex-owner bragging about sale and price on the industry sites.

It's not like it was xxxvideos dot club or dot top. It's a .com probably purchased with disposable income.

Mickey is a common name.

You'd be fine, unless you used it for some cartoon themed website about mice.

Why don't you email [email protected] and ask him how much he paid for the domain. I'll be curious what he says.

The price does sound like bs, but I've learned over the years that a domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it and there's usually at least 1 sucker out there willing to pay 10 times value, just gotta find him. I've also learned not to underestimate Rick's ability to market his portfolio and find that sucker.

Some of Rick's other domain sales.

Porno.com $8,888,888.88

This was the 4th largest recorded cash domain sale ever! (Purchased for $42,000 in 1997) It is important to note that this domain had career earnings in excess of $15 Million via pay per click earnings and never had adult content)

989.com $818,181.81 (registered for $100 in 1997)

899.com $801,000 (registered for $100 in 1997)

9595.com $180,000 (registered for $100 in 1998)

Men.com $1,320,000 (bought from 3rd party for $15,000 in 1997)

eBet.com $1,350,000 (registered for $100 in 1997)

Property.com/Properties.com $4MM + Equity Stake (Bought from 3rd party for $750,000 in 2005)

Candy.com $3MM + Royalties + 10% Ownership +++ (Bought via broker for about $100,000 in 2005)

iReport.com to CNN for $750K

Meet.me $450,000

The following were early sales to establish domain value. Registered between 1996 and 1999 for $35-$100 each.

TokyoHotels.com $200k++

ChinaTours.com $200,000

RockStars.com $180,000

FreeSexCams.com $150,000

GayEscorts.com $121,550

PartnerCash.com $110,000

eCruise.com $100,000 & Stock

235.com for $100,000

SydneyHotels.com $100,000

eScore.com $100,000

RoomDividers.com $75,000

273.com
$50,000

This is why Rick is the King!

XXXVideos.com (Sale retracted) $1,368,000 Pvt Sale

Looks like this was all a BS publicity stunt because the sale was retracted.

Depends on who you ask, I still buy them, new products and niches come out daily, just a matter of picking winners and then buying down the vein.

Find something that someone is selling or going to sell, and keep it two words max and stick to .com

Go buy some of the new gTLD domains, lots of premium ones are still available. I invested in them and am rolling the dice since I missed the boat on .com's.

It may take a while but the right names in the new TLD space will increase in value. Home.loans sold for $500k recently.

Don't believe all the marketing hype from the registries and do some due diligence. For the vast majority, businesses either choose to use .com or a ccTLD if they're targeting a specific country. New TLDs have proven time and time again to be a horrible long term investment. Just look at the track record of .travel, .pro, .biz, .mobi, .tel and .xxx, TLDs that were all launched 5+ years ago. How many developed sites are there using these TLDs? It's lucrative for new TLD registries to pump out domains to deluded speculators who missed the boat on .com, but the aftermarket for these alternative TLD domains after the initial launch is extremely illiquid.

ICM Registry allegedly sold Tube.xxx and Tubes.xxx for $750k. They don't even resolve, meaning they don't even get enough type in traffic for the owner to bother to redirect elsewhere. Gay.xxx allegedly sold for $500k and it's just a shitty VS white label that gets a drip of traffic. Sex.xxx allegedly sold for $3M and gets almost no traffic. Without significant additional expenses for site development and traffic acquisition, it's extremely unlikely these "investors" will ever recover their "investments" in these domains.

As the Talking Heads said so nicely: Stop Making Sense!

I would rather try and brand a new domain name than acquire an older one and try to revive/increase it. But that's just me, I'm the creative type.

Don't get me wrong I don't think the new TLD's will ever sell for what .com's go for but there is money to be made in that space. In the last 18 months I've sold 1.run, x.run, e.credit, easy.credit, repair.credit, mortgage.loans all for mid $X,XXX to mid $XX,XXX and I picked the up for cost of registration.

It's not millions but there is money to be made with the right names... and that's the key especially with these new TLD's that have expensive renewal fee's you need to have the right names with the right extensions.
