I just got fucked by an Indian company - GoFuckYourself.com

For the first time in our 10 years of operation we have outsourced a project, a web cam site in this case. We did the design and the outsourcing company in India, which has already developed web cam software, was to connect the design to their software and do some additions that we asked for. That was over a month ago eventhough in the contract it said 7 working days. Needless to say that the site looks like crap and is not operational. Not only that but the the developer just told me that the design that we sent is too complicated for him. This he tells me a month after I sent it and after I am trying to still hold on to my client that is out of patience as well as I. Right now all I want is my $2000 back and source codes so that we can continue the project. They do not want to return our money. I am waiting for their final answer tommorow to know if they can finish the project after all and if so when. If not I will publish the name of the company so that all of you will be ware of their practices.

What options are open to me so that I get all of my money back? Or do you think that I can kiss that money goodbye?

If any of you reading this is an experienced PHP programmer or know of one please let me know. I need this project finished ASAP.

Sounds like you just learned some really valuable lessons in outsourcing. Most of our development outsourcing is to eastern european programmers, we always project manage jobs with our own local programmers overseeing the job. We modularize as much as possible so no single programmer has access to the complete code base.

Did you get them off an outsourcing site where you can make reviews about him or dispute the work? If not, you can probably kiss your money good-bye unless you can come to some sort of agreement. Maybe try to get him to finish up as much as he can, then pass it on.

The money was paid partly through paypal so that I can dispute if he gives me a bullshit answer tommorow. I will see according to their answer what happens and if so you all will know what Indian web company I am talking about. Their demo and system were very nice, and yes my client was looking for cheap. I took the risk and learned a lot from this experience. I will Never again outsource to a company in India or anywhere else, only to the USA where a contract means something and people know how to give service and treat a client!

Good luck but don't get your hopes up.

Did you send 1 $2k payment or several small ones?

If I remember correctly Indian paypal accounts can no longer receive payments over $500 and all payments will be automatically withdrawn from the Paypal account to a bank account within 7 days. (Earlier this year paypal announced those changes to Indian accounts because of new regulations in india.)

Have been through it, most people out there are so greedy.

Don't pay big amounts as advance, and split the balance money in small sums and pay as project progresses. And keep at least 25% until project finishes. You can have them even kiss your ass, as long as there is some outstanding amount.

I use 1/3 down, 1/3 on proto-type, and final 1/3 on delivery of final product with transactions being by Paypal or credit card so I can dispute if needed.

In future, use a service like oDesk which has a dispute process for problems just like this. It also lets you track employees by screenshots of their computer and their work diary. Saves for many headaches later on.

Yeah I'm surprised this one didn't turn out better.

1. Using a company you know nothing about and never used before to do something as important as programming for your project.
2. Sending money upfront with out any ways to get it back.
3. Paying 2K for a cam site and expecting the end product to be nice/good.
4. Dealing with out source workers in India for programming. Out source workers have a good purpose for things that are easy and time consuming, but when it comes to working on important parts of site, leave that for the professionals.

We can write a cam script for you, but you're gonna need to add another zero to the end of that price. As for your indian issue I doubt you can get your money back from them, chalk it up as a learning experience. Even if you had the code, we did a cam site for another client who had a similar issue with an indian programming company. We ended up remaking it all from scratch because it was faster then trying to debug and finish that messy bullshit.

No one is going to do a good job on a cam site for $2k, it is a ridiculous amount of work (that you also have to support afterwards). I don't even know of a ready-made cam script that costs that little.

How in the world did you think that you could effectively outsource a project like this without any support system, like odesk, vworker or freelancer?

How did you plan to keep your money safe and how to hold payment until all smaller modifications would be done and fixed?

You seem really inexperienced, naive and gullible. On what "reliable" page did you find this gem anyway? I'm not sure Paypal will handle dispute claims for "digital goods" or if you marked "payment for a service". You'd be better off by quit moping around and start working on finding a replacement instead.
