There will be no peace in Middle East as long Hamas and other radicals rules. When Palestine voted for Hamas they also chose suffering.
The only way to aid their people is to distribute through a checkpoint and let some independant witness the aid is given. |

Egypt also have the blokade for same reason: Hamas makes the region unstable. |
Quote:
I don't know why in this case, I don't know Israel laws, but I doubt those 100% cover the costs of the blokade. Security, military, administration, PR... Israel is not run by the mafia or a Nazi dictatorship, but a country run by democratic elected politicians, so they must also have discussed why they have this tariff and what those money are used for. There must be an official explanation other than your assumptions, don't you think? |
Quote:
No, I wouldn't put tariff on unless there is a good reason to do so. There might be various and strange reasons for doing so. The most obvious to me, is to cover some sort of costs. Some countries or people even refuse to recieve aid. They are too proud, won't commit themselves, lack humiliation, or simply want to suffer so they look like victims. The last part is standard strategy for leaders in radical islam. They choose their people to suffer for "the world to see" and brainwash their own people to believe some other caused it. Even their kids are tought so, sponsored by Israel haters all over the world. When you read about humanitarian aid carrying "school books" for kids, what do you think is written in those books? But all of that is endless discussion and irrelevant to the tariff you talk about. I just want to see the official source. Not only your assumptions with reference to greed/exploitation. If it's a contract between UN and Israel government, which IS elected democratic, then there must be a source? |

"The few items merchants are allowed to trade in are divided into three categories: food, medicine and detergent. Everything else is forbidden - including building materials (which are necessary to rehabilitate Gaza's ruins and rebuild its infrastructure), electric appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines, spare machine and car parts, fabrics, threads, needles, light bulbs, candles, matches, books, musical instruments, crayons, clothing, shoes, mattresses, sheets, blankets, cutlery, crockery, cups, glasses and animals. Many of the banned products are imported through the tunnels and can be found in Gaza's markets. Pasta, which had been forbidden in the past, is now allowed, after U.S. Senator John Kerry expressed his astonishment at the ban during a visit to Gaza in February. But tea, coffee, sausages, semolina, milk products in large packages and most baking products are forbidden. So are industrial commodities for manufacturing food products, chocolate, sesame seeds and nuts. Israel does allow importing fruit, milk products in small packages and frozen food products as well as limited amounts of industrial fuel." http://www.haaretz.com/print-edition...-gaza-1.276147 even the minimal array of food etc that is allowed through is only 25% of what is needed by the people there according to the UN. israel is doing more harm than good to their already poor international reputation. the blockade is nothing to do with arm smuggling and is all to do with oppression of the palestinian people. |

As an ex-navy soldier, I know that. But I also know they should have used gas. But this was the last ship and maybe they did not expect deadly treats from an "aid" ship. Quote:

It's very clear what Israel is doing here. They are trying push them out. And they are, very slowly. It's really rather cleaver really. A missile hits Israel, and they put a blockade around the entire area, starving them, and denying them basic comfort creatures like sneakers and what not - making them miserable. Their intention is to get them all to leave the Gaza strip. |
