When I lived in Phoenix my wife worked in a physical therapy department of a hospital in Sun City, a retirement community. Everyone she dealt with was old, and almost all of them had lived through WWII. One time she noticed someone had one of those tattoos and that's when she discovered that my interest in WWII was embedded in her clients. To make a long story short, in the end I got to meet a lot of people who had made it through WWII, Jews, Germans, everyone. It was amazing really.

I've been to Europe before and I've been to a number of the museums there. However, I was younger, and wasn't too interested in any of it.

However, when you step back and take a look at your family, most of us have some connection. My grandmother's entire family died and that's how she came to the US. My grandfather died during WWII fighting the Japs in the South Pacific. My step father was a young boy in France, and was wounded by a grenade.

It's just an amazing period in history.

GAZA CITY, Palestinian Territories (AFP) ? An international aid ship en route for the Gaza Strip was intercepted by Israeli troops early on Saturday, the Gaza-based committee awating the vessel told AFP.

"The Rachel Corrie has been intercepted 35 miles off Gaza," a spokesman for the welcoming committee told AFP in Gaza City.

A Dublin based spokesman for the vessel, which is carrying 15 people and tonnes of aid for Gaza, could not confirm the information and said he had not been in contact with the boat.

The Israeli army was also unable to confirm the information.

What I find most interesting is we have a location this time - 35 miles out at sea.

Rachel Corrie aid ship 'seized by Israeli navy'

One of the last ships on a flotilla carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza, the Irish-owned MV Rachel Corrie, has been intercepted by the Israeli navy, according to reports.

The activists on board the ship reported via Twitter that three boats were following them for around twenty minutes.

Israeli forces then boarded and reportedly placed passengers under arrest.
