I like Harleys, and for the most part Harley riders, like every group you're bound to have a few assholes.

i'm also curious re: non-rider's views towards loud vehicles/motorcycles and how much you associate that with harleys and harley riders.
also, thoughts on the clothing many harley riders choose to wear, the *pirate* costume as some like to call it. |

I'm not brand-loyal at all. Because they're American made? Follow that logic and you shouldn't shop at 90% of the stores in this country and you will always pay more than you need to.
If it has two wheels and handles well, and I like the way it looks and feels, I'll ride it till it falls apart. I have a Vulcan that I absolutely love - but I do feel it is too light and a bit too tall. ![]() I really like the boulevard: ![]() But when it comes to harley's my favorite is the cross bones model ![]()

i love them
i do kind of miss how harley riders always used to have that rough edge to them, and when you saw a biker you knew he was a badass, now a lot of preppies and weekend warrior business types are all i ever see 2 summers ago i was out in oakland, and the day before i got there someone had killed the leader of san frans hells angels. i didnt know anything about it, but we were driving and we went to get onto a freeway and traffic was completely stopped for the funeral which was a HUGE gathering of bikers. i swear those guys were riding 4 or 5 bikes wide and it lasted at least 10 or 15 minutes to pass us (no exaggeration) it lasted so long we eventually just got out of the car and started taking pictures with them behind us... that was one of the most impressiive things i have ever seen in my life. ironically enough, i was walking into walmart yesterday and there were some bikers out there selling raffle tickets to win a new sportster and i bought 1 for 5 bucks.... maybe this thread is a sign that i am going to win it weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee |

I used to be more about the rice rockets, but the last bike I had was a 98 Intruder VS1400. It was definitely comfortable to ride around for a few hours, but not a bike I'd go touring with. Also, I don't know what it is like down there, but up here in the Toronto area bike riders get zero respect. The louder the bike, the safer you are. And of course a nice pair of steel-toed boots helps for when some douche in a big ol' land-yacht crowds your lane.

Out of gas. Since 1985 or 86 the rep of spending time at the side of the road dissipated. My 86 has over 175k on it and the only time I had trouble was when a wrist pin went out, then a few weeks later when the sleeve slid out due to expansion issues.
Had not considered the difference between the old school steel cylinders and the new aluminum ones. Easy fix but was a weird thing to happen, especially when it happened. Everything just locked up as I was blasting down the street. |

one of my buddys has one and he rides the piss out of it and revs the shit out of it...he needs to in order to keep up with the rest of us on our rice grinders. he has to go through the motor almost every year, the bearings go away from all the rpms.
they still use 1910 technology, don't even think they are american made these days...they only get assembled here in the states. like 87 percent of the parts are made in the orient. when they redesigned the engine into the evolution version, porsche engineers did the design work, that in itself is pretty lame if you ask me. they do look bitchin and are great for two up riding cuz of the torque but a gold wing or any of the big jap touring bikes are sooo much smoother. harleys never were fast but the higher ups in the company wanted to win at something other than dirt track, they tried running them in pro stock bike and let them run nitro still couldn't compete, they tried road racing em had an independent company come in to advise them how to be competitive ...the said redesign the engine, frame, suspension, harley threw in the towel. called vance and hines...nhra let them run 2400cc engines to race 1200 and 1300cc jap bikes, every bike in the class is practically a v twin now cuz the engines can be so big. there are no harley parts in the bike other than the screaming eagle decals.

I have a few different bikes but when I ride my Harley, I feel like the asshole.
But the Harley is the best to terrorize the streets with. I can see people pointed at me saying, What an asshole as I burnout next to them while they are on the phone in traffic. ![]() I've been riding for over 30 years, and I'm 40.

if you did take it to the strip it would be a humbling experience, ive seen a guy run low 11's on a old 250 maico motorcross bike all stripped down with rear struts. you would get your feeling hurt when a kid on a lil 250 puts you on the trailer, plus as sticky as the drag strip is you may break drive line parts. if you do decide to go, wait til they have an all harley drag event, you would have a lot more fun at one of these events

most associate harleys with dirty looking bikers...
harleys look great...but I am not a fan of the red neck biker dudes. I have friends that ride and rock the leather jackets and mc boots but not that asshole attitude. I like Ducati babes http://www.ozbiker.org/vent_forum/in...1823.msg256603 ![]() |

I love mine. Loud pipes are great if other drivers are paying attention. I almost got run off the road the other day by some lady in a minivan who was switching stations, yelling at her kids, talking on the phone and putting on makeup all at the same time. She was so close that I could hit her window, which startled the crap out of her and she swerved to avoid me (luckily, she swerved away from me, else you would need a ouija board to read this post).

It's not that hard to ride, really. You could take lessons. ![]()

Just sold my R1, my daily rider when in a hurry GSXR 750, Ducati 996, a Custom I bought from a family that lost their son in the line of duty. His personal bike and lots of Dirt Bikes.
I'm starting to get rid of the ones I don't ride much, "Less is more" Bought this about a year ago and sold my old Charlie Sheen bike. ![]()

right on peeps, thx 4 replies-
i've been having a spirited debate over at a mc board i frequent, the bmw and ds guys seem to think harley riders bring a bad rap to all motorcyclists due to loud pipes and gear, so i wanted to hear some thoughts about it. i reckon i should get the dyna mo in here too- my 103" dyna fat bob ![]() |
