Damn. Tough times for Vegas. Hard Rock Hotel Pres. Apparent Suicide.

http://www.tmz.com/2010/03/09/hard-r...-hotel-casino/

Sucks.

Been hearing from some people I know that work in the clubs in Vegas that times are tough as ever. Cops are viewing this as a suicide investigation for now.

That sucks. But I doubt it had to do with The Hard Rock having "tough times"

If it's really a suicide I would imagine it would have to be something more personal than that. The casinos here are still pretty full and the whole city has been busy over the last few months. Way better than a year ago anyway.

Anyway, even if the Hard Rock was on the verge of bankruptcy (it isn't) I don't think that would be cause for this guy to kill himself. Of course he has mental issues (if you commit suicide you probably have something wrong somewhere upstairs), but it's probably something a lot more personal than lower profits (and yeah, they are making big profits...just not as much as 3 years ago) at a casino that would cause a man to blow his brains out.

Yah, I don't know, I just know what I hear from my friends there.

It just wouldn't be GFY to post something factual. I had to soap opera it up and slime it real good so it would fit here.

For the sake of debate of course.

lol.

Today, the Indian Tribe of Florida owns and operates all units except the Las Vegas facility.

Maybe he was upset because the Indians snubbed him in the buyout and he wanted to be on their payroll?

Just sayin...

The Nevada Gaming Control Board released on Friday the Gaming Abstract that contains figures from all areas of the gambling industry in Nevada. The net loss for 2009 was $6.8 billion, compared to the $721 million that was won in 2008. The figures represent a drop of over 1,000 percent.

"The casino industry will certainly recover from the effects of the economic recession," said Gaming Analyst Steve Schwartz, "Although these figures make things seem bleak, casinos in Las Vegas that have survived the past year should start to see some recovery in 2010, and certainly by 2011 should be back on track."

Several casinos in Nevada, however, will never see 2011. There are bankruptcy hearings taking place, and one casino resort has just changed owners. Planet Hollywood has been bought out of bankruptcy by Harrah's Entertainments.

i thought gambling was another "escape-ism" scenario like people going to the movies to forget about their hard times..
guess not.

I'm with Robbie, that HR was part of the Morgans group, a conglomerate that owned HR LV, The Shoreclub South Beach, The Mondrian in South Beach, and other boutique hotels in Scottsdale, London, San Francisco, and more.

http://www.morganshotelgroup.com/company.aspx

Unless he owned major shares in the group, its unlikely his motive was a decrease in business. Vegas hurt more after 9/11 than now.

Most folks take their own lives because of personal desolation, who knows what demons were plaguing him. I hope he finds solace.

Suicide ... a permanent solution to what is normally a temporary problem.
