Its sssoooooooo damn funny to approach the Border at Mexico and the US and read the signs about bringing in guns. And here its not legal to own one at all that I know of. Funny thing is 99% of the murders are done with guns and Tijuana had more than 1800 murders in the last 14 months.

Yep. Gun control makes it a lot safer...

Gun control should = Hitting the target.

What is really sssooooooo damn funny is that the same Americans who believe the US stands as a World leader compare it to countries such as Mexico or South Africa when it comes to gun crime...

Oh, I forgot, there is also Switzerland, they have guns and very little crime, of course that has nothing to do with the fact they are a speck of a country with an ageing population and one of the highest GDP per capita in the world.

they are going to attach registering your guns to your 2010 tax return, adding a $50 per gun tax and adding to that, according to the bill, they can enter your home and inspect anytime they want to make sure you are compling with the law. They will fingerprint you and issue a permit to own a weapon. Welcome to Germany 1939.
If they want to control crimes with guns, go after people that use them illegally, not those that use them legally

I've tried really hard to give the Obama administration a change, but now I can say a big FUCK YOU!
I don't normally say bad things about you... but you really are an idiot if you think this will become law.

*shrug* Over here the only ones to have firearms are the authorities and prosecutors. The bureaucracy and tests for owning a gun are so shitty and there's a few year waiting period so only a handful of civilians own any. The only ones you can get more easily are hunting weapons and God help you if you pull one of those suckers outside the hunting ground even to defend yourself in your own home. Legally speaking if the bugler has a baseball bat you have to defend yourself with b blunt object too or risk getting fried.

Still I have never been robed or assaulted, never heard of any acquaintance being robbed or assaulted, never heard a gunshot outside a film and there's a firearm killing/year on the news. Usually people just get stabbed.

Here's the problem, we have senators like Diane Feinstein that are anti gun political type that have concealed gun permits. She doesn't want anyone to own a gun, but as long as she can carry one. In California, if you have a CCW, Concealed Carry weapon permit, you can carry that weapon any place in California except San Francisco, Diana Feinsteins permit was issued in San Francisco. She says she gave it up, but I don't believe politicians, do you?

They are estimated 30k gun laws on the books, written by idiots that think they are going to curb crime, they only effect those that follow the law

it the libertarians were in charge you would be able to. as long as you don't infringe the rights of your neighbors it's ok!

hell, you should be able to have a fucking tank in your backyard if you want. now, if you use to to blow up your neighbors house, then we might have some problems.

ok, lets try this one more time.

criminals don't follow the laws, so you can pass all the laws you want and it's not make any difference to some gang banger who wants to rob you.

you think it's unsafe now, image if there were no guns in the hands of law abidding citizens.

if only the police/gov't has guns, it's a police state. is that what you want?

our forefathers knew that arming the people was the one of the best ways to insure freedom.

here's your nonsence
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kennesaw,_Georgia

On May 1, 1982 the city passed an ordinance [Sec 34-1a] requiring every head of household to maintain a firearm together with ammunition. It was passed partly in response to a 1981 handgun ban in Morton Grove, Illinois. Kennesaw's law was amended in 1983 to exempt those who conscientiously object to owning a firearm, convicted felons, those who cannot afford a firearm, and those with a mental or physical disability that would prevent them from owning a firearm. It mentions no penalty for its violation. According to the Kennesaw Historical Society, no one has ever been charged under the ordinance, but it has still had the effect of reducing crime by at least 50%.

If the worst happens.. they'll close the assault weapons gun show loophole.

I'm a slippery slope thinker, but even I dont see that as an increase in regulations, only fixing a gaping hole in an existing one.

it seems that many people commmenting here own guns and that the ownership is for protection....of person, rights, etc.

my question is have you ever used your gun for reasons other than sport? not going to the range or practice, but really because of a situation you were in?

This is why politics in America are so fucked.

People blame the "Bush Administration" or the "Obama Administration" for everything wrong that CONGRESS does.

Congress is a 10x bigger problem than any single President.

Impose term limits on Congress! A two term limit sounds fair to me.

The only way the WH would be taking away people's guns is if Obama got someone in the House or Senate to introduce the bill on his behalf.

As for guns in America, too many criminals already have them so the good people need them, too!

On the graph total violent crime in the US in 1981 was somewhere under 4 and is now under 2. So yeah about 50% and that was nation wide.

Sorry, I didn't look at the chart, I looked at the print next to it where it said it went down 17%

in 1960 there was a population of 179,323,175 people in the US with a total of violent crimes of 288,460

in 1989 there was a population of 248,239,000 people in the US with a total of violent crimes of 1,646,040

in 2008 there was a population of 304,059 724 people in the US with a total of violent crimes of 1,382,012

179,323,175/288,460= 621
so one in every 621 people have had a voilent crime happen to them in 1960

248,239,000/1,646,040= 150
so one in every 150 people have had a voilent crime happen to them in 1989

304,059,724/1,382,012= 220
so one in every 220 people have had a voilent crime happen to them in 2008

the goverment has been keeping these records since 1930 I think

what would you say the % of people in favor of guns have that opinion because

1 - they think they are safer
2 - they like to hunt
3 - they think it is just their right, no matter for what reason

im just curious, i hate them, dont ever want to be around them due to a good friend killing himself in high school with his dads shotgun... but i am curious, why do people really like them?

do people with guns really think that they are safer at night because there is a gun in the house

no sarcasm here, just curious

If your friend was suicidal enough to actually do it, he would have done it regardless. Having a shotgun handy just made it more convenient. Think about that.

It's coming. Maybe not next year, or in 5 years, but it's coming. Count on it. The irony is, the American people will let it happen and do nothing as it does. The handful that *may* stand up and refuse to let it happen will be struck down so fast their heads will spin. "Homegrown terrorists" they will be called.

not as long as the nra continues to ply congress with cash, they are easily one of the top 5 most powerful lobbying groups in washington.

government goes to the highest bidder and that bidder is the national rifle association when it comes to gun control.

Let me ask you this, if it weren't for your friend with the obvious mental disorder, not picking on him, he did, would you still hate guns?

Do this, find a friend that likes them, take that friend and go to an indoor gun range, they rent guns you can use and go thru a couple hundred rounds shooting maybe a .38 and then you will be an imformed person

Fo me, it's about the rights that the founding fathers laid down
It's about if someone brings danger to my home, I can deal with them
It's about politicians using this as a soap box to scare people when there is more important things to do.

I mean I would be for a healthcare reform if they could explain it, do you think there is one senator that has read and understand the whole thing, remember 2000 pages! Lawyers have read it and they don't understand it!
I would feel better about it if they could work with the GOP and get something that everyone could agree on.

I think we're going to have a bunch of incumbants voted out in 2010, as least I hope
Uh.. Obama can't introduce gun control bills... Check the Constitution for more details nutcase.

It's a mistake in the law's wording. But for now, the clerical error is the law of the land.
Earlier this week, Congress sent the president a massive spending bill that funded dozens of federal departments. Tucked into the transportation section of the legislation are safety requirements for Amtrak customers who carry firearms on board the government-backed train system. The bill Congress passed mandates that passengers with firearms declare they have weapons with them in advance and stow them in locked boxes while on the train.

The bill text was correct when the House approved the legislation last week. The Senate followed suit Sunday, but somewhere along the line, the language that referred to putting the guns in locked boxes morphed into stuffing "passengers" into locked boxes.

Aides to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., became aware of the problem Wednesday night as the House voted on its final slate of bills for the year. Pelosi's staff tried to negotiate with Republican aides to see if they would agree to change the text of the bill without revoting the entire piece of legislation. But it was all for naught as Obama had already signed the measure into law

This is our government, LMAO

This clearly says that our government is capable of anything, even if by mistake!
