Need tips on selling a mainstream business thats been in business since 1987

My father is wanting to sell our printing company. We do a lot of printing for local tv stations, hundreds of local businesses etc.. We're selling the entire shop, all equipment (valued at$15,000) computers, and our client list which is gold. The clients that come with the shop, have been ordering for 10-15 years, and the shop is currently profiting around $20,000 a year.

We're wanting to focus on stock market and forex trading so we need to raise the money.
We have all finanical statements to back our clients claims and money claims. Plus he is just tried of printing, and wants into something else. He is asking $6,000 - $8,000 for the entire business, equipment, client list and out stock of paper, envelopes which is over 500,000 pieces of paperetc..

Anyone with info or who might be interested in this, or can point me in a direction besides craiglist or ebat please holler.

We're fully ready to offer in house viewing, complete access to our files and accounts etc.. just to verify.

If anyone has any ideals, please give me a shout.

was your dads wages included in business costs or did he just earn the profit? guessing the business did not do the former and include him as an hourly wage or salary right?

How do you have over 2000 invoices and hundreds of clients but only clear $20,000 a year? Are you doing jobs for $15 or what's the deal?

I suggest you look up a local business broker in your area. They are sometimes
tied to realtors so maybe start there.

it's the 20k profit after salary expenses (i.e. was your father or the person responsible for running the company receiving a salary or just the 20k?).

Also, how much would the new owner need to know about the operations of the business, is there any employee(s) that can run the company?

The Price is Right?

The pricing of any business can vary from industry to industry, but you could use the general rule of thumb for pricing 1 X (one year's) Earnings. When I sold my computer company two years ago we got 1.5 X (one year's) Earnings, but that included a healthy client list and rights to some applications. Not exactly the same thing.

Good Luck with the sale. Selling a small business is like winning the Super Bowl, if you get a good price.
