I'm tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans and Canadians. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I'm not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely comprised of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here need to understand. This idea of America and Canada being a multi-cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans and Canadians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chineese, Japanese, Russian or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian right wing political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principals, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If stars, stripes and a Maple Leaf offend you, or you dont like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change and we really dont care how you did things where you came from. These are OUR COUNTRIES, our land and our lifestyle.
Our first ammendment gives every citizen the right to express his or her opinion and we will allow you every oportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining and griping about our flags, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of the other great American and Canadian freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE!

This is one of the big problems. There is literally millions of people in this country that really don't give a shit about it. They come here for handouts, and educational opportunites.

When I went to college here in southern california, its amazing how people stick in groups. All the arab kids hung out together in a big group. All the asians, same thing. Hispanics, same thing.

They had no desire to interact with 'outsiders', just stick with their own kind.

This is how people like jews and asians are so successful. They stick to their own kind and dont do shit for outsiders.

Just a few issues for youto consider:

1. French Canadian's might disagree about English being their first language.

2. Native American's might disagree with your tolerance for Christian Immigrants who killed thier ancestors for land.

3. Mexico is part of North America and a significant part of the SW USA was taken from Mexico. So perhaps Spanish and the culture of Mexico is more native here then yours?

4. All three North American countries have a history of religous tolerence and our US Constitution, a rather wonderful document, is rather clear on seperating church and State to maintain that distance and tolerance.

Most of these kids Im referrering to are rich in thier own countries, and the only reason they are here is because mommy and daddy paid the bill.

That statement applies mostly to asians and arabs. I have seen plenty of kids like that driving bmw's and act like they own the fucking place and just stick within their group and turn their noses up at everyone else.

While flying from JFK last month I was subjected to a very thorough check of my luggage. While an Arab looking student was not.

When I pointed this out to the person inspecting my luggage, she informed me. I was "Randomly selected" and had it pointed out to me that my racist remarks were not appreciated and that I was not taking the Anti Terrorist precautions seriously.

I asked her how many planes had been hijacked recently by middle age, white, business men flying in First Class???

She took her time inspecting my luggage. Oh yes she was thick as a plank, had an attitude that said "I have a uniform respect me" and was negro.

LOL... I'm not quite sure how to repond this, given:

1.) You are speaking of N. America.
2.) Don't seem to be considering the French and Spanish colonies and Mexican land that American annexed by war, threats of war or purchase during its expansionary period.
3.) This same "argument" was used against immigrants in the 1900s (Irish, Italians, Jews), now it is a new group.

I would dig up the specific changes in immigration laws, but that's a waste of my time.

in the united states an immigrant has as much of a voice as someone who was born here. just the way it is. we all have a voice, opinion, and a right to express them. just because someone doesnt speak english doesnt mean they have to. spanish is the 2nd language of the US and i wouldnt be suprised if someday it was the main language.

Will you be offended when Major League Baseball players start wearing Turbans as well as baseball caps because it offends the religion of that baseball player if we dont allow him to do that?

A little while ago an RCMP officer in Canada was allowed to wear his turban instead of the usual hat RCMP officers wear. I dont have anything against someone wearing a turbon, but RCMP officers and what the wear is a symbol of Canada. A turban is not.

I will not be offended. When someone asks for an exception to the rules based on religious beliefs im the kind of person that says let them do it.
I'm not sure what an RCMP officer is.....but if he is like our state police here then there is a rule that states they must wear their hats whenever enforcing the law......they pull someone over, they have to have the hat on. The hat itself is what identifies a state policeman......this RCMP officer....i imagine its probably the same. I wouldnt have allowed it, and would be upset that it was allowed.
but, is the example you gave why you are upset with immigrants and their cultures not conforming?

There is literally millions of people in this country that really don't give a shit about it. They come here for handouts, and educational opportunites. When I went to college here in southern california, its amazing how people stick in groups. All the arab kids hung out together in a big group. All the asians, same thing. Hispanics, same thing. They had no desire to interact with 'outsiders', just stick with their own kind. This is how people like jews and asians are so successful. They stick to their own kind and dont do shit for outsiders.

French Canadian's might disagree about English being their first language. 2. Native American's might disagree with your tolerance for Christian Immigrants who killed thier ancestors for land. 3. Mexico is part of North America and a significant part of the SW USA was taken from Mexico. So perhaps Spanish and the culture of Mexico is more native here then yours? 4. All three North American countries have a history of religous tolerence and our US Constitution, a rather wonderful document, is rather clear on seperating church and State to maintain that distance and tolerance. I think you should consider your very simplistic comment

BigFrog Confirmed User Join Date: Sep 2002 Posts: 2,057	hmm.....interesting thread. i always find it funny when people get angry over immigrants not conforming. in the united states an immigrant has as much of a voice as someone who was born here. just the way it is. we all have a voice, opinion, and a right to express them. just because someone doesnt speak english doesnt mean they have to. spanish is the 2nd language of the US and i wouldnt be suprised if someday it was the main language. didnt you hear that for the 1st time the majority of births in california were latino? since north america is a society built on other cultures doesnt it make sense that our society itself would be constantly changing. just because one culture thinks they are the majority doesnt mean they should get the right to make other cultures conform...... myself, i can trace my ancestry back hundreds of years in this country. im native american and very proud of my culture. but i certainly dont expect others to speak my language or follow my customs. north america truly is a melting pot of cultures....respect it and allow it to flourish.
