I started this thread last week and I received a ton of feedback. Anyway, I just bought a Sony Vaio 2 days ago... the model # is PCG-FXA63 for $1,299 at bestbuy. With the warranty and bag, it came to $1,700. Go to cnet.com and enter your criteria... for Ex, I did a serach for laptops under $1,500 and a few Toshibas/Sony's came up.
Good luck. |

Dude if you got huge money to spend on a laptop get the Toshiba Satellite 5200-801 it's their brand new flagship. I had a look at it the other day, it is so totaly sweet, as cartman would have said it.

I've got 2 VIAO Laptops and 1 VAIO desktop and all three have worked out great for me. If you use any sony products (camera, mp3 play, PDA) definately go with a VIAO that has a built-in memory stick reader (they are fast as hell and a lot better than having to hook up cables/load drivers for each product). As you can see I'm a big fan of Sony. Good luck! Charlie

Everyone will have a different answer to this based on their experience, but what that shows IMHO is that there are a lot of good options to choose from.
I started with a Toshiba back in '96 and haven't looked back. I've had Toshiba laptops ever since. Much more reliable than any desktop machine I've ever owned. I just get port replicators and presto I have a desktop when I need it. The Toshiba Tecra series is a little bit more money than the Satellite series, but they are some solid machines. I have one at work, a few at home and all of my family and most of my buddies have Toshibas as well. Okay, I've rambled on long enough. Time to go to the airport for Vegas. Brad |

Get a Powerbook with DVD burner. SONY or Toshiba cant fuck with this. http://www.apple.com/powerbook/ Blows away any pc. ***** 'Fact is, the PowerBook G4 powers past Pentium 4-based notebooks by up to 44 percent in Adobe Photoshop testing.' *****

A friend of mine just bought the top of the range VPR Matrix (Best Buy's own brand).
This thing is SWEET! Largest, brightest screen I've ever seen on a laptop. 2Ghz P4, 512MB RAM blah blah. Think he paid $2500 with some upgrades. Case is just georgeous (designed by a Porcshe designer) and it's really well-built.
