World's Happiest Country is Denmark

Quote:
Denmark is the happiest country in the world while politically unstable Zimbabwe ranks at the bottom, according to a U.S. government-funded study released this week.

The United States -- the world's richest nation -- ranked 16th among 97 countries in the World Values Survey.

The survey, paid for the U.S. National Science Foundation, found that happiness coincided with greater economic growth, democracy, and social tolerance.

By that measure, Denmark tops the list. Rounding out the top 10 are: Puerto Rico, Colombia, Iceland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada and Austria.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/07/02...ess/index.html

It seems like Denmark consistently ranks #1 in happiness in these types of studies... this one came out July 2006 - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/5224306.stm

ok that's just wrong.. Denmark is completely flat, and all the cars are pieces of shit. A normal car costs a fortune there.

However.. I believe their social assistance system is so ridiculous, that it's just normal to be on welfare, because you'd need a pretty great job to make more. Crazy socialist. Something like $3g's a month US to be on welfare.

Denmark is a GREAT country to live in, if you like to get punished for working and your ass raped in taxes. Taxes on cars is fantastic there, about 180% on the car + any equipment installed.
You dont need a great job there to make more than on wealfare, a nurse or policeman earn about $6500-$7000 /month as example.
The system in some ways is nice, in overall it sucks. Especially the high earners in adult have been moving out of the country due to taxes / audits and lawsuits from the government about taxes / VAT, I finally took the big step in january and moved to Andorra

lol, I live in Denmark and FUCK NO people here are the happiest in the world.. The average dane is not very social... "we" all like to complain alot...
Besides that, the average dane is stupid as fuck.. letting our country become a new muslim state my voting the wrong parties every single fucking time...

About the tax system in Denmark, I dont have a problem with it.. it's quite nice that we dont have to worry about medical care or other stuff like that..

The tax on cars are ridicolous though... makes us drive cars with out dated technology instead of brand new cars with alot more safety... that's pretty fucked up

That is the problem of EVERY western countries. We are too stupid to understand that the fucking muslisms want to rule the world.

We are too stupid to understand that when these people comes to our peacefull countries, THEY should adapt themselves to our way of living... it is not US that should be adapting to them.

Same is happening here in Quebec. I've been living in Germany, same there, I've been living in Denmark too... and I know it is the same there too...

Fucking muslisms.

I heard there was a cultural thing over in Denmark called Jante Law, some sort of unofficial code where successful people should never show it.

Hehehe - even complaining about being happy

Having low expectations is the key to happiness... ex. think you will only last 30 sec. with a hot female, and then do a full 1 minute - surprise the fuck out of yourself, and feel like a stud = happiness

Well I suppose the happiest country in the world have to be the least developed jungle country out there.

With no credit cards, no fucking insurance, energy companies, phone companies, no rentals, no ID's, no cars.

That's how I imagine the happiest country in the world.

Born and raised in Denmark let me put in my 2 cent.

Socks
Cars have a tax of 180% + 25% sales tax.
Free health care, free education.
Over 25 years or 30 you get about $2000 before taxes in welfare.
Tax rate is from 40-60% then there is a long list of deductions.

You don't see people begging in the streets to survive unless its their choice and no child should ever go hungry to bed if they have decent parents.
You can get any education you want if you are willing to work for it. I live in Copenhagen and I don't think there are anywhere in the city where I would be afraid to go no matter the hour.

Yes we pay for it but minimum wage is $25 an hour, 37 work hours and 5-6 weeks paid vacation. Everything here is expensive but the social safety net makes up for it in my opinion, I fall ill and I get the care I need. If I get fired, have a break down and hit rock bottom I will get help to get back on my feet.

It may not be for everyone but I have lived in both the US and Brazil and honestly I wouldn't change how the system works in those countries for the one where have here. It may be because I am born here and used to how it works.

About us being the happiest place is in great part because of the low expectations.

Hah yes Dong Energy. I have a good friend who works for them in Copenhagen.
He told me one time they have had a very hard time recruiting sales people to call on the English speaking market as cold calls would start like "Hi this is John Doe from Dong Energy....."

Anyway say what you want about Denmark, but the women are hot as balls and people party hard. Plus Tuborg rocks. The only beer (besides Duff of course) to be mentioned in the Simpsons.

I really hate to destroy your vision about the danish system, but it that really isn't the case.
You will get help only if you have ABSOLUTELY nothing left, dont expect help from the system if you get sick and own any assets
I'm not sure if you are married or not, in case you are, your wife is also not allowed to own any assets neither if you need help.
If you own a house / car you can kiss it goodbye then

True but fair enough, the system is for people really in need.
If you own a house worth millions then you shouldn't be able to receive welfare but you still get the same health care no matter if you have money or not.

We are not talking millions, I think the value is something in the $10K range or even less. Not in cash but in actual value if you are to sell it
And how do you see that as fair if someone that was earning a lot of money, paying a lot of taxes including the extra punishment tax and such get sick and can't work, why shouldn't they be allowed to get help to cover their monthly bills untill they are recovered? Instead they continue paying to the same bums.
That really isnt a society that take care of you if you get sick, that's a society that wish to rape you for your last penny while they can
In case you haven't noticed, I really dislike the danish system and the idea that someone working hard should pay for someone that does not bother to work

Also being a danish citizen I agree with all you write above except for the "don't think there are anywhere in the city where I would be afraid to go no matter the hour" part.. ofcourse people are different and that may work for you.. but the main part of the people in Denmark would rather not take a walk in the areas like "Noerrebro (the bad parts)", Kokkedal, Vollsmose etc etc... all places with muslim ghettos, and no, you're not safe there...

I know the crime in Denmark is not to be compared with some of the big cities in the US, but saying it's a "walk safe around anywhere at night time" country is not true... it was 15 years ago, but not now...
