If the SEO specialist has to spend more then 1hr explaining things to you then you have not done your homework. 95% of the information is readily available all over the place.

Just my opinion, but I think a lot of people would agree with me on this one.

What about the time it takes for the consultant to evaluate your site so they can tell you what you did wrong or forgot to do altogether?

I have spoken to numerous people and I think it takes the average person alot longer then an hour to understand what I'm explaining.

I think its a safe assumption that getting ranked for a good term is certainly not a matter of an hour. I guess take it from there.

We hired a SEO specialist for 6 hours and paid him $3k

It was worth it all. I have a fine base knowledge about seo both on site seo and link building strategies but there is so much more to it when you wanna rank no 1 on a very competitive term.

Nick....as with everything there are certain things that go on that are not in print....a GOOD SEO knows even the smallest of tricks to make the difference.....if it were that easy the top 10 ranks for porn would change daily.....

Yah but you have to have the time and interest and ability to take that information and put it to use.

also when you hire an seo consultant (a proven one) you are getting their working experience.. That is what you are paying for..

I can't go reading novels on SEO and PR this or that and try and decipher what it all means..

I got a business to run!

For the same reason I don't do my own plumbing, electrical, dental, auto work myself :P Yah I COULD do it myself for free but it won't be nearly as effective and could just end up costing me more time and money down the road..

I agree... I have had 2 to 3 hour meetings w/ clients to explain our findings and as for the research.. if you want a good one it could take up to 3 weeks to be thorough. That is if you want to stay at that rank for a long time.

By that logic it's not worth it to pay for SEO help at all since almost all the information is out there and freely available if you have the time to find it, read it and figure it all out.

Not true at all, the 5% that you're paying for maybe worth 10,000 more then you pay.

There are many people out there that possess knowledge that you will not find anywhere. And even if you did find it you may not know its true importance.
