It takes some getting used to, as I have the one you wear on your ankle but I like the peace of mind that if a Shark is sniffing around me he will not want to stay.

There's been reports that the shark shield doesn't work as well as they claim.

Why try and scare them away anyhow? They are beautiful creatures to swim with and look at.

The poor guy in CA was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sharks dont eat people. He was most likely mistaken for a seal. The shark attacks, gets a taste, figures out its not a seal and lets him go. Of course the damage is done, but they dont eat us. Most other shark attacks happen when a person puts a shark into a defensive position like stepping on one or getting too close. They are really afraid of us.

Tigers and Elephants kill 20x more people per year than sharks do. Soda pop machines kill more people.

And thats the simple truth. Or you could believe what hollywood would want, because it sure sells alot of movie tickets.

I would rather look at the beautiful creatures in an aquarium. Don't want them thinking I am lunch. The wrong place at the wrong time was in the ocean with sharks around. I surf, and I like to scare them away.

As far as it not working very well, the dude tests it sitting under a big dead tuna with a great white swimming around. As long as it works a little bit, I like to put the odds in my favor if possible.

Shark specialists estimate that 100 million sharks are killed for their fins, annually. One pound of dried shark fin can retail for $300 or more. It's a multi-billion dollar industry.

I too live in Solana Beach and its big news here as so many people swim in the ocean training for various events. I got a call around 7.30 am yesterday and was shocked at the news, the family must be devastated. Im not a strong swimmer but I do boogie board off that beach a lot.

Anyone who would stop swimming in the ocean over this, why??

You are thousands of times more likely to die in your car driving to the beach than from any of the sea's creatures while swimming.

there is more chance of dieing in a car crash than a shark attack, so it is beyond me why retards who drive are saying that they wont go in the ocean anymore.

infact your probably million times more likley to die in a car crash

you just have to swim BETWEEN breakfast and lunch or sometime between lunch and dinner.... You're safe as long as you're not swimming during the sharks meal times.

actually that one was not confirmed to have occurred as a result of a shark attack. They couldn't determine whether her leg was bitten off before or after death. She might have drowned first. Last confirmed was in the 50's

I mean honestly is this news? I would have loved to seen it, but shit the guy was in the sharks fucking kitchen. I have to go with some comedians stand, this ISN'T news. You go into the sharks fucking kitchen you have the possible change of getting either bitten bad or killed. I know this every single time I surf. I surely don't want to be on the news because I decided to go in the waters and surf or swim or anything.

Honestly I have no sympathy for the people that die in the ocean because of shark or other animal related instances. I mean look at the croc hunter, everybody and I mean EVERYBODY knew he wouldn't live his live to the current human lifespan and if anybody did they were stupid.

I wish the only time we heard about a shark attack is when the shark came OUT from the ocean and actually bit somebody, other than that, who gives a fucking shit. Honestly, you go in the waters where sharks may be, you take that fucking chance! No sympathy for this guy or anybody else kill by sharks, crocs or any other animal in the ocean or swaps or wetlands.

Well, I would agree that the VAST majority of what the media highlights is not news.

But Bat Boys, Celeb Scandals, and Shark Attacks DO sell papers.

p.s. I love you, too.

JDog.

I guess when it didnt happen to your family, your backyard, your community, one can be have your point of view.

I suppose the only reason I am posting here because this story is somewhat personal to me since I can look at my window and see where it happened. I surf where it happened. You didnt see the family and friends. You didnt hear the stories they told.

whatever.. The weather is awsome today and I'm getting off the internet..

Also, remember the summer of 2001 was the summer of the shark. Obviously they were covering the wrong things.

Jason, not to say that I lived right by the beach in Huntington Beach, just a hundred plus miles north of you. And yes I surfed out there too, and yes there was a shark attack in 2004 (of course it wasn't fatal).

But me going out in the water, I know of the possibility of this happening and don't feel that it should be "breaking news". If you enter the ocean you're entering a whole new domain and entering the territory of sharks.
