Scotty, on the flipside of your experience have you ever done the M6 run through Birmingham? It makes you feel clinically depressed.

Everybody that says that doesn't live anywhere near it. That area (I live not far ) was a total wasteland beforehand. Ask anybody about the Docklands in the 80's and 90's. Since the Dome that area is now a buzzing area full of businesses , homes and many tax pounds paid into the economy.

If that sort of regeneration happened anywhere other than London people would be proud of it. Also, that year it was the most visited tourist location in Europe. Their problem was only opening it for one year..which was dumbass.

Now, the 02 is only adding to the buzz of that area that less than a decade a go was just swamp.

One of the major reasons I'm leaving London. The tube ever morning used to make me feel like killing people. Thats not a good way to feel before you've even got into work.

it is the millenium dome, and i agree with scott mcd, it is a waste of money, but i disagree with you, actully seeing it real you may change your mind, its a pretty impressive building and much larger than the picture gives credit for (in a way) going under it today was so much fun hehe

oh sorry i didnt answer your question, no its not a soccer stadium, at the moment it is a concert hall owned by a large mobile phone company and i think it has loads of entertainment round it like bars and resturants and big bands play there, it used to be a huge science museum kind of place and really flopped. thats what its aim was anyway.

Yup..ever single time I start to get bored in this industry I think back to my days of having to commute into London every day. It is a good system but if you did it anywhere in the world with that amount of people every day it would get you down. I had to do it the other day in evening rush hour to take a friend to Euston Station and I felt like shoving a few people off the platforms. Now, in non-rush times it is fine.

I live on the outskirts and we don't have a tube station out there (nearest one is actually at the Dome..North Greenwich). It would be nice to have one here but if that was the way I went into central London every time I would probably be going insane.

Still, having grown up in small town America where we didn't even have a taxi company I try not to take it too much for granted either.

Yeah..it looks better in person and particularly when it is on the horizon. I did think it was funny though that on the year it opened the tube station netxt door one a building design of the year award over it.

I always get a buzz when I drive to Los Angeles, I like the big buildings and Hollywood. I think it's glamorous and I love it and I love the tall buildings. I hate orange county, I feel like I live in the boonies and like there are cows here. Actually it's NOT in the boonies and there are no cows here but it's not as "glamorous" about LA. There is something very seductive and glamorous about Hollywood. I just love it.

I live in London and while I think it's a great city with really something for everyone, I've really learned to appreciate smaller cities.

I used to get that buzz in some places but not really anymore

I feel that way about Amsterdam, coming in under the tunnel straight into the old centre, lovely.

London, working there every day getting of the fucking train at fenchurch street used to drive me mad, but if I approach London from a differnt side, then yep, coming in through harrow, go up to the top of the hill and you've got the whole city laid out before you, delightful.

I just love an old city, US has got some great ones, San Fran and Boston but New York's the daddy..

Yeah..the DLR will be from Woolwich soon and that is one stop from me on normal rail. At the moment, I have to do to Greenwich station to get the DLR whichis about five stops down. That really opened up the Canary Warf area for people in this area looking for jobs.

I actually really like the DLR..fast and easy. Even if coming down through the Cutty Sark station reminds me of the start of Half Life 2.

I think Greenwich is great actually. Its the only place I'd think of buying if I was going to get another place in London (too pricey for me though),

Bingo. Great cities like that always evoke emotion one way or another. I love London, strangely enough I have never been to New York yet.

I grew up in London, then moved to New York (from Greenwich to Greenwich Village), and I always felt waaaaaaaaaaaay more buzz and energy in NYC.

And I agree with Mike Semen, Greenwich is great. Probably the place I'd move to in London if I had to live there again.

I have only ever been to london a few times, mainly for the football. The place certainly has a differnt atmosphere about it, something we don't get in the north.

I like Manchester but it feels 'slower' to me. Which isn't at all an insult but just a different feel. I live Liverpool too but again it feels slower.

London can be great if you are 'happy' and make the most of it - I find it a killer if I am depressed about anything. It can be very hard and unforgiving.

My bf is from the surrounding area and I am getting married up there in July. I think I could live there if I had to and I liked Liverpool more than Manchester. Which isn't to say I disliked Manchester.

As far as smaller cities/bigger towns go. I have liked York (going again in a few weeks) and I love Canterbury. I would live there is a second if I could afford it.

I like London's energy too. It's so unfortunate that the women aren't as hot as in other places.

NY and Miami are the only other cities that have a comparable buzz about them.
