If I were president, every bike would have a banana seat, a sissy bar and a big orange flag on a flexible pole on the back. WITH clickety clackers in the spokes to give it speed.

But seriously, the reason I predict a dem win is only because how america votes like a student driver drives.

Yeah, instead of leaving troops behind IN MEXICO, we TOOK a huge chunk of Mexico and called it Texas, (and california and ....) and put bases all over it!

So it is your contention that ANY Democrat is better than ANY Republican.

Drake 02-06-2008 11:43 AM

Obama and Clinton keep trumpeting policies that will effect the wealthy negatively, so if it's between McCain versus Obama or Clinton, I'm thinking McCain will get the Presidency. Big business, wealthy individuals, and lobbyists will do what it takes to keep the "socialists" out of office (not to mention the racial and gender factor). I'm very surprised McCain even has a following, and if he is President then we deserve whatever disasters for the country that he is sure to reign in. Romney is superior to McCain IMO.

Maybe I'm wrong. We just have to let the cards fall where they may.

Socialist movement to fufill. :1orglaugh

You guys have been drinking the Karl Rove Koolaid.

Universal Healthcare?
Raise taxes on the wealthy?
Decrease the rising disparity in weath from the haves and the have nots?
Decrease miltary spending?
Increase education spending?
Get out of a war that we have no shot at winning and shouldnt be there in the first place?

What a bunch of commie pinko's right?

And liberals want to change the constitution? :helpme

Actually it's the opposite. The Republican conservatives in this country today (when they're not busy sucking on Reagan's teet) are the ones that want to modify the constitution. Gay marriage bans, immigration control etc.

And I have yet to find someone who actually has an educated opinon and thoughts as to why Hillary Clinton would be a bad president. All they can throw out is Liberal and Socialist (gasp!!!) taglines.

And for anyone who makes their money in this industry and votes for a Republican is absolutely nuts. Why people dont vote for THEIR interests is beyond me. It's like the guy driving a beatup 1996 Ford Escort with a bumper sticker for GW in 04. Wake the fuck up you idiot!

Yeah, looked to me like he got decimated yesterday. At the point I tuned in briefly I saw McCain had something like 370, Romney and Huckabee had far less, and poor old Paul had 0.

But his supporters on the board were pretty rabid over the past few months. The quieting of them today has been rather nice actually. :D

The difference is that:

- in Mexico we weren't dealing with millions of fundamentalists in a region rife with centuries-old religious in fighting; Iraq isn't a frontier nation like America was

- North Americans displaced Natives and Mexicans in Texas and elsewhere not just in geography but in population (Native Indians are a exceptionally small minority in their own homeland ). The base in Iraq with our 30,000 troops, or however many we leave there are going to be under constant "insurgent" violence. The Iraqi population is going to remain the significant majority and I'm guessing they're going to keep their religion and perspective of infidel invaders in their holy land.

- Wars aren't fought the way they used to be. Conquerors in the past often slaughtered entire populations to mold nations into what they wanted. Sheer force and large-scale unfettered brutality doesn't go over well today.

The contradiction with increased spending on education is that (if I'm not mistaken), America spends more on education than just about every nation on earth. It's not the money or lack thereof in education that's causing American kids to fall behind in academics. Pumping more money in education has been a nice catchphrase for decades now but the increases have failed to yield significant gains in academic success. Who knows, maybe it's a question of exactly where that money is going. Something is broken and blindly pouring more money into it isn't going to fix it.

Not all the democrats, all the presidential candidates. I hate them all and I want new ones.

I have no party affiliation. I vote for the best candidate or the lesser of the evils if I have to. Usually, I have to.

Drake 02-07-2008 06:21 PM

So you think the neo-cons will elect McCain and a Jewish VP over the Dems?
(I doubt Clinton or Obama will select each other for VP if either of them wins the Presidency - and I think they know this about each other. That kind of ticket is too brash).

I'd say nothing is a sure thing in this election. It seems like it could still go any way.

.Agreed.

Pretty amazing one of the Keating Five has half a chance to become president. You think anyone will care if Dems try to republicize it? I'm assuming most have forgotten or don't know.

stereolab 02-07-2008 06:32 PM

McCain scares the shit out of me. that is one angry dude.

Not to mention the Republican VP front runner (Huckabee) says publicly he wants to rewrite the constitution so it follows the bible. Yeah right it is the democrats that don?t follow the constitution. lol

Guess I missed it. When did McCain say he would have Huckabee as his running mate?

Tom_PM 02-08-2008 10:55 AM

No way that he'd pick Huckabee for VP.. Maybe for something else.

McCain said this morning that in Iraq, we'll move to a supporting role, and eventually withdraw.

He's lucky that some unscrupulous opponent doesn't take that and say he's laid out his "timetable" for "surrender".. heh. Dirty politics bites both ways.

If it hadn't been a live thing, I'm sure that line would have been changed. Not because it's WRONG or BAD, but because he's used similar phrases from others and turned them into "timetables for surrender".

They all suck.:error
