I just overheard an interesting conversation about workplace porn viewing
I just went out to lunch and while we were eating a bunch of white collar office guys came in and sat behind us. Then they started in on a conversation that I couldn't help but over hear. It was about how their company has rated and given levels (ie level 1, level 2) to tag to the type of porn being viewed when they catch an employee viewing porn.
I think these guys were from the IT department because they were talking about how the monitoring system was being set up. They said that level 1 was basic softcore woman exposing breasts and was a reprimand but not firing. Level 2 was what they called 'normal hardcore' and they could be fired for that..and then they said the debate was about where level 3 became level 4 because level 4 was porn that was so bad that the police were called in..so I am guessing kids and the like. I felt like turning around and giving them some urls but regardless it was an interesting conversation to overhear. |

For all I know they were trying to figure out how much they could look at and not get fired themselves.

You should have stayed another five minutes - you would have heard them all fighting over who was going to head up the new 'Dept Of Porn Rating'.

I am curious how much the adult industry has been hurt ever since companies - at least bigger ones - started cracking down on surfing porn in the office. 10 years ago everyone did it and knew they weren't being monitored. It was a safe haven away from family, kids and it really felt anonymous as you were on a network.
Now I assume large corporations have an official policy plus monitoring software, and even if not I would think most employees would be paranoid they're being tracked. |

Companies have the right to read your work e-mail on their network, mind you could always get tight with the IT guys and ask them to keep port 22 open and SSH out to your server and read your mail without the corporate prying eyes.

Yup, I would always assume that anything I sent at an office could be read. Just being able to read the office gossip is powerful enough alone and a reason to be friends with the IT guys.

Either way he should have kept that on the DL, and he might not have had to deal with the CP PO. ![]()

I run the network at my day job. I only block sites that the lazy fuckers in the office look at. Gives them a reason to work more.
