What are your favorite Horror / Slasher pics?

Evil Dead series. First one was scary as hell...it reminded me of that Ad in the movie Crazy People "Paramount Pictures Presents The Freak. This movie won't just scare you, it will fuck you up for life."

As a kid, some pretty scary movies that today's audiences would laugh at my favorites would include:
Rosemary's Baby
Invasion of the Body Snatchers *50's version*
Night of the Living Dead *68 version*
The Bad Seed *50's*
Any old Dracula / Frankenstein / Wolfman / Mummy flick *including the Abbot and Costello ones

The list goes on...so many great movies, and a ton of just cheesy fun ones like one I watched again the other night...Fright Night.

The Evil Dead series is legendary in my mind. The first Child's Play terrified me as a child, as did The Exorcist (since I happened to see it at a time when I was actively playing with a ouija board). The Texas Chainsaw Massacre really sits on top of the pile though, and if you don't have at least one version of it on DVD where you can listen to the commentary I would recommend you look into it.

Japanese horror films are pretty good too. The original Dark Water Honogurai mizu no soko kara is really good, as is Ringu, Kairo, and Ju-on. The whole "freaky deaky ghost children" thing can get a bit repetitive though.

Re-animator is a lot of fun too, as are most movies based on or inspired by Lovecraft stories.

So many horror movies to love, so little time.

I can't wait to see more posts.

ahh...Texas Chainsaw Massacre...a true staple on the Texas Drive-In movie circuit for most of the late 70's and 80's.

That was a pretty frightening movie back then. I remember my sister coming back from the drive-in with my cousins just raving about it..saying they wouldn't even walk to the bathroom by themselves...when I finally saw it...I soon realized why.

Oh yay! Some of my favorite films.... How about the original "The Fog" with Adrian Barbeau (I think that's how her name was spelled). And I DEFINITELY agree about Evil Dead. That movie freaked me out when I saw it years ago. The original Amityville Horror and the first Halloween. Salem's Lot (original) scared the crap out of me too!!!!

Yeah all those movies are great...the original Fog was pretty scary.

Salem's Lot truly freaked me out...to this day I have two weird phobias...water and looking out windows.

Salem's Lot fucked me up with the windows thing...when those kids would float up to them...LOL.

The water thing came from Jaws *who would have thunk it* and Let's Scare Jessica to Death...there's a scene in the last movie where the dead missing chick floats up from the bottom of the pond to grab Jessica's legs...fucks me up to this day.

I think the only "horror" movies that really freaked me out were The Exorcist one and three.

Yeah, I remember when that movie first came out...that scene was discussed and dissected over and over...one of the truly great movie scenes of all time.

The whole movie is fantastic tho'...the way his friend's body just keeps decaying each time they see each other...great humor...great detail.

I loved that movie...not real scary, but pretty damn creepy and some amazing acting on display.

For me, a movie that affected me when i was younger and still does is "Magic"
that movie coupled with a weird marionette experience gave me a puppet phobia....I fucking hate puppets, mannequins and cigar store indians.

I was able to watch "Dead Silence" and really enjoyed it and can even watch movies like the Puppetmaster series.

I recently picked up the movie "Magic" on DVD and it's lost a little bit of the scare factor, but it still made me think back to being 8 or 9 watching it all alone late at night on HBO.

Another movie that I highly recommend for chill factor, but can get lost in a little bit of pretension and psychobabble is "The Brood", my favorite Cronenberg movie.

Also, I don't know if anyone else saw Love Object... the movie isn't really scary, but highly entertaining.

And, of course, who can forget They Live? Rowdy Roddy Piper fighting aliens, lol. It's John Carpenter and anything by John Carpenter is gold. Especially In the Mouth of Madness, one of my personal favorites.

Jacob's Ladder is fucked up film with some freaky moments. Did anyone mention The Exorcist. Halloween, Salem's Lot and Carrie scared the shit out of me when I was young. Jaws simply fuced me up for life when it comes to the beach.

Jacob's Ladder is a fantastic film...to this day a lot of people still don't quite get what it's about.

My own take is that the main character NEVER left Vietnam, and in the short moments he had before he died, he was able to live the life you see in the film.

The character like the chiropractor is a spirit guide so to speak, McCauley Culkin who played his dead son, is an angel coming to take him home...there's a line and I'm just paraphrasing here...where Aiello as the Chiropractor says that when you're fighting death, the ones to take you onto the after life seem like demons...it is only when he accepts death, do they become angels in the form of the son, who comforts him, then takes him up the "stairs."

I love movies that kind of trip on shit like this.

Jacob's Ladder (for me) is about his struggle to survive on the surgeon's table, and the demons are death coming to take him away. Everything is all freaky because he is convinced that death is awful and scary, and the chiropractor is indeed an angel trying to free him from his life and aid him is his travel through death.

I love creepy movies like that but for me they don't fit into the genre of horror.

For horror, what really gets me is there aren't very many that I feel are well done. I think this is because I like movies that move beyond simple jump scares and give you a twisted mind fucking.

Unfortunately it's very easy for horror filmmakers to go for the sensory scares... the boogeyman jumps out of the closet and there's a loud sound! After a little while you become habituated to it and you see it coming from a mile away.

There are, however, some films that reach a bit deeper and disturb your mental core for one reason or another. These are the horror films that leave an everlasting impression that extends beyond the movie theater. I know that Kairo is one of those films for me because of how it explores the theme of isolation. Very chilling stuff.

The Descent caught me off guard when i saw a bootleg video of it before it got its theatrical release in the states. that one knocked me on my ass.

A Tale of Two Sisters (Korean) has one of the scariest scenes I've ever watched. A girl is trying to sleep while some things go bump in the night. Then morning comes... that's when my guard went down, and the next 2 minutes made me and a whole room full of people squirm in our seats and make funny noises.

Well i have watched a lot and that one still does in fact the only true horror film for me i have found disturbing. Its app on the list for remaking again it would be interesting to see how it turns out since so many remakes are a joke recently.What i made in another post about getting money for crap!
Other films i think are quality ones would be the evil dead trilogy also dead and buried is quite good if you haven't seen it!

The chucky films are all good and i am a poltergeist fan not the tv series thing though!
A lot of the hammer horror films are good for atmosphere and i would love to see a real quality vampirella film come out too!

I used to be a horror nut! One of my faves as a kid was ''It''. It just creaped the fuck out of me everytime!

Also the phantasm series were pretty good as well
