its just a statement of fact. never a hit on their service. We could sit and debate the merits of it, but in the end we are just cheaper. With a larger network. These are facts. Not subjective, Like who has the best of : servers, service, techs. Shit I have heard great things about all the competitors here. You could debate them all day. Truth be told there are other hosts that are cheaper still. Offering less. Tony, you and I know the differences in what we offer, I have never been critical of what you do and if you took offense at what I said, then I am sorry for that. There are tons of reasons to go with a bunch of the hosts here, most of them different. Thats why its always best to talk to a few.

Well - that's not the easiest question in the world. The short answer is anywhere from $10-25/Mbps would be a "good" price. Not all networks are created equal - and not all providers are created equal either.

You have to evaluate several criteria, really (not in order of importance):

1) Quality of Providers' Upstream Connections (direct, through resellers, through additional aggregators?)
2) Quality of Providers' Peering Relationships (how many "eyeball networks" are they peering with - how many locations are they peering with them in)
3) Quality of Providers' Backbone (if they have one)
4) Quality of Providers' Routing Equipment (Fully meshed and redundant?)

There's also the other criteria that are not as easily measured or ascertained - including, quite simply the knowledge and expertise to operate their equipment and run a network properly.

There are of course other criteria and issues that are involved - and this really only addresses the network, leaving out facility/server/management concerns.

Best,
Sam

I feel it's always better to promote your own merits rather than say anything remotely derogatory about another company. There is very little to gain by comments about the competition whether you're stating fact or not.

and personally, I was not the least bit offended by your comment, but I was very surprised to hear it come from someone I always felt was a professional representative of a good company.

If we all sat around and started posting stories about other hosting companies that we've heard from our clients... this thread would never end and we would all look like idiots.

Yeah but you know what every company needs to be profitable and they do provide solid hosting solutions. From what I've seen lately, their market pricing seems to have corrected quite a bit at least on new accounts.

With regard to this post I would have to say that the price for fully managed 600 megabit with all hardware is going to depend on

1) Complexity of the initial setup and ongoing support needs
2) The overall capital expenditure that the host has

The reality is that depending on what the client requires this could be a $12,000 a month solution or a $25,000 a month solution.

The funny thing to watch out for when quoting a high bandwidth solution is how far some hosts will drop their drawers to close a sale. At the end of the day, I'm always making sure that we price accordingly so that we can continue to reinvest in support and expanding our infrastructure. Not all hosts do this and far too many deliver sub-par solutions. Saving money on your hosting bill doesn't mean shit if you're losing business or not monitizing on your traffic optimally.

My advice, obviously your business is doing well - choose your host wisely!

By the way, are you serious BigFire or you don't really need 600 Mbps?

Kudos to you. It's nice to see there are still some sane hosting companies out there that aren't interested in a race to the bottom of the quality/cost curve...

Having realistic estimations of cost for a good solution is a rare thing these days.

Best,
Sam

Good Peeps of GFY...for the record, this is the first and last time you will ever see me say anything negative about any of my competitors. I think it is childish and shows that your hosting cannot stand on it's own merits so you resort to throwing unsubstantiated claims towards a competitor.

BigFire, I truly hope that you will give NationalNet the chance to earn your business. You will find that sometimes we are slightly more expensive but the difference in your experience and that of your surfers makes up for the small difference. Additionally, there have been other hosting companies listed in this thread that I have a ton of respect for and I am sure you would be happy with if you decided against NatNet.

I sincerely hope you find the best host for your business, whether it is NatNet or not.

Well said T ... I agree with you 100% ... Bad form caz

Like Nat Net, we are certainly not the cheapest solution, but I'm a firm believer in you get with you pay for these days.

Good luck with your host search BF we are here if you need any information with regard to our pricing and services.

I tell our customers that "making you happy is the second most important thing in the world to me".

The FIRST is making sure we are profitable and here for the long run so we CAN take care of our customers.

Of course, I love the hosts that charge way to little and hope to make up the loss by overselling the network because that means a potential future acquisition for me
