Don't allow users to view, stream, or download content.
In fact, if you don't even put your content up on a server in the first place, I'd say your files are best protected.

I think an equally large concern is having your files all virused up to fuck over legit members

I would suggest putting a note on each page asking them to not steal your content. If you ask nice enough, they probably won't steal it.

Don't forget pennywize, and I believe TMM has Sparta or Carma with those features built in.

gmr likes to cut and paste his promo into any thread that mentions Strongbox,
but you should know that his product doesn't really address your concern at all. His product is intended for password trading sites, something it does reasonably well. There is no really great protection from having your content shared, but there are basically three things you can do to help the situation. First, you can put your URL on all of your pics and videos, so they become advertisements when people share them. This is probably the biggest thing. The largest, most successful sites I've worked with have tons of their content on Limewire / Bearshare / Gnutella, and they have over 100,000 members. I'm convinced that a lot of those members first got interested in the site after seeing some "stolen" content. Secondly, you can prevent people from ripping and sharing your whole site by using either the simple ripping protections built into Strongbox or better yet our new Throttlebox, an intelligent bandwidth limiter. Lastly, you could use DRM on your movies so that it's more difficult for people to copy and share them, but I think that's a really bad idea in this industry. It doesn't stop people who take 5 minutes to search Google and find out how to remove the DRM, but it does annoy the hell out of customer who prefer some other player besides Windows Media Player and especially the 10% or so who use something besides Windows.

Rockatansky who couldn't remember the name Phantom Frog. Secondly, Phantom Frog also has a feature called Bandwidth Abuse Protection which would be very relevant to this thread to protect against content ripping. Making people aware of ALL their options is my main objective. Very interesting comment you gave on the URL labelling. |
