Serious question. How much do we truly care about stolen content.

Been a lot of garbage spewed recently about sites stealing content and I wondered to myself. How much do we as an industry truly care about people stealing content?

Personally I don't think very many give a shit about it.

Tell me why you care. Assuming you do.

The reason for my question was this. Eva told me Kate Moss is scared of getting exposed on a sex tape that has gone missing. So if it arrives on the Net will you promote it? Would you push a site or sponsor selling Pamela Anderson's, Paris Hilton, or any other celeb who has a sexual tape out there? That has been stolen!!

Epic have a tape of Paris Hilton in prison, I suspect it's a spoof and good one Trey wish I had thought of it. But if it's real who will promote it?

Many sponsors, and we know some of them, do little to nothing to stop affiliates stealing content. Are they anti the Torrent sites?

And all the rest who are so vocal flaming the Torrent and Megarotic type sites for stealing content. How many of them can honestly say they have no stolen music, games, DVDs on their computers?

Or is the truth that many do not give a shit about Torrent and free sites stealing content. They care about them appealing to the surfer more than their sites and them stealing sign ups?

Some then tell us these sites will hurt the long term health of this industry. So stupid it's a joke. When did anyone care about the long term health of the DVD industry or even the Internet porn industry? Every time we short changed the buying surfer we hammered another nail in our coffin.

I'm a content producer and a pretty good one. If the free sites close down the business the sites stealing it will have to buy it. <That was me being ironic.>

I have no complaint people moaning the Torrent sites have a better business plan and appeal more to the surfer than we do. Just let's call it as it is. My thoughts is very few here really care about stolen content.

Content theft, swapping, trading, burning, isn't new. The attention it's getting is though.

And no, I'm not worried about something that is absolutely impossible to stop or even monitor. Not that I won't ask to have the content removed if I find it, but I'm not going to make a business model of suing or finding that content, that would be stupid.

i think ip rights (whether it be code, pictures, videos etc)should be respected
what i think is really stupid is when content producer choose not to use the notification procedures of the DMCA and then bitch and whine like a child about their content getting stolen.

I'll tell you whats worse. Is when a sponsor is informed of an affiliate stealing content and then insists on the content owner jumping through all the hoops of a DMCA. When the stolen content has the owners watermark on it. Or the content was clearly flay bed scanned out of a magazine. And when when you catch a same sponsor taking traffic from the same affiliate again and again with stolen content.

Yes those things happened.

I was a full member of APIC and some of todays biggest guys were stealing content or supporting those who did. Some of them even walk up to me at shows and with a smirk tell me they were stealing my content.c They don't offer to pay for it.

Now we are under threat from someone stealing from us, now it's a crime. The culprit has become the victim.

The saying "people in glass houses etc." comes to mind.

Hi Paul
To be honest man: you should think about changing your nick. For some reasons, I have the feeling, that people don't respect you
I myself can't judge about you, but ... just look above
Actually I like stolen content. I watch it all the time! My house is full of burned cd's!! But I don't use it to generate sales, or somethig like that.
So keep on stealing people!!!! I'm sure a lot of people appreciate it

the hoops of the DMCA it a one page faxed document. yes the DMCA safe harbor provision can be exploited but the burden is so small any content provider is to lazy to follow the rules deserves to be exploited.

how do you mean "garbage spewed" ?

You support sites that steal your content and resell it ? thats a rather strange approach , but whatever floats your boat i suppose.

doesn't that devalue your content when your customers know the content they buy is not being protected ? i would think any product is devalued if you let people steal it..

Again Paul? We know already!! You want everyone to steal your content and posted it on all the torrent sites, give it all away for download.. and use a dating sponsor instead of your own affiliate program.

Could you make it a little easier on us and link us to the videos first? You do have videos don't you?

No I don't and never said that. As English must be a second or third language to you let me explain more clearly.

The picture I get is that we support theft in circumstances where it will make us money or provide us with entertainment. I gave the instances above.

We complain about others doing the same as we do when it hurts us. I gave the instances above.

Stealing videos of Pamela Anderson having sex and making money for it. =

Stealing music to listen to. =

Stealing programs. =

Stealing content to take sign ups away from us. =

Not saying individuals just as as a whole.

Brujah do you get it now?

I'm saying we are hypocrites.

I'm not a content producer. It's not my content. It's yours. You're the one arguing in favor of torrent sites, not me. Hey, I applaud your stance. If I ever create a torrent site I will feature your content primarily Paul!!

My understanding is that the Pamela Anderson video was ruled LEGAL and newsworthy. The Paris Hilton video was licensed. You are legally allowed to promote this from legitimate sources, and is not considered a copyright violation.

I agree to an extent that some hypocrisy exists in regard to piracy. I've downloaded an mp3 or a tv show too. I'm not trying to monetize it so there's a huge difference.
