Whisky has to be from Scotland

Whiskey can be from anywhere else in the world.

The spelling whisky (plural whiskies) is generally used for whiskies distilled in Scotland, Wales, Canada, and Japan, while whiskey is used for the spirits distilled in Ireland. A 1968 directive of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms specifies "whisky" as the official U.S. spelling, but allows labelling as "whiskey" in deference to tradition; most U.S. producers still use the latter spelling, Early Times being one of the few exceptions.

In the late Victorian era, Irish whiskey was the world's whiskey of choice. Of the Irish whiskeys, Dublin whiskeys were regarded as the grands crus of whiskeys. In order to differentiate Dublin whiskey from other whiskeys, the Dublin distilleries adopted the spelling "whiskey". The other Irish distilleries eventually followed suit. The last Irish "whisky" was Paddy, which adopted the "e" in 1966.

A mnemonic used to remember which spelling is used is that "Ireland" and "United States" have at least one "e" in their names, while "Scotland", "Canada" and "Japan" do not.

Do you remember the lesson from Wayne's World II (I think) where we were told that all "Champagne" comes from France? If it comes from anywhere else, it is called "Sparkling White Wine." I think that is what Rob Lowe said.

Champagnoise is another term for Champagne not from Champagne as well, like Cognac must be from Cognac except for I believe a region of Uruguay which was given special dispensation by the French for doing something for them in the past. Cant remember what or why but I think thats true.

Kind of like the forced use of "Corinthian Leather" instead of just saying "Leather" when the product is actually just fake leather. Companies are not allowed to misrepresent so the make up something to fool the masses.

I want a car with RICH CORINTHIAN LEATHER - in other words, some shit plastic covered seats (or whatever corinthian leather is).
