Id seriously want to know how do you make money in mainstream - not the details, just the big picture:

Create decent sites (takes a lot of time)
Swap links
Wait for SE traffic

that it? my only mainstream site made $0.18 last MONTH lol

I can find 100 ways to make a few bucks in pron and 0 in mainstream
if you can spare 20 seconds and post the basics I'd be grateful

IntenseAmber 06-06-2007 11:32 PM

I just want to say thanks to everyone who is contributing to this thread. I am new to the industry and will take all the advice I can get!

Antonio 06-06-2007 11:33 PM

in pron I can get tons of promo content from sponsors, is there such thing as promo content in mainstream?

Pornwolf 06-06-2007 11:55 PM

Product feeds, communities, there's all kinds of tools and tricks that work better for mainstream than porn.

PPC in mainstream is better because the conversions are WAAAY lower. 1:8 is the norm if you know how to write ads.

It's just easier. I'm not saying there's no money in porn, because there is, but if you are starting out you are better off spending the learning curve time learning how to work mainstream.

Porn is a business in decline. It's not growing. In a few year's times things are going to look a bit different.

In mainstream a good site can be sold for several years revenue. In porn, that same level of site will get you 2 months revenue.

Think about it.

I'll have to do some hardcore reading and seriously start thinking about spending at least 10% of my time on working on mainstream sites, there're like gazillion advantages in that - porn can get hit by some fucked-up law and basically I'll be left with no incmome....

One thing that makes the porn industry unique is the access noobs have to large players/deals:

GFY+ICQ= all the access you should ever need. Be smart about that. Don't waste people's time. Hit them up for 2 reasons only- business and business.

Oh yeah, and test, test, test. You won't know what works best off hand. And other people's traffic/sites, etc. will perform differently than yours. So trust data.

CyberHustler 06-07-2007 01:54 AM

don't fuck tASSy... :2 cents:

CyberHustler 06-07-2007 02:01 AM

Oh yeah, and when you're at a convention don't forget to by your bro a drink for being a stand up guy. This is your way to the TOP

CyberHustler 06-07-2007 02:03 AM

Also, being the one to make the 50th post in a thread makes you cool...

I'll have to remember that one..

Whatever happened to the woj 50 bot ?

BobG 06-07-2007 02:17 AM

let Lanny Barbie ass rape you with a strap-on at a show. It's pretty much initiation for Bro Club

Mr. Mojo Risin 06-07-2007 02:49 AM

I'd say get a mainstream job and go to college if you haven't, unless you really want to make a "career" out of porn. Also, save money for a rainy day. I don't see why a newbie would want to get into porn now. It isn't the same as it was when I was a newb back around 1997. It was easy money then. That's why I quit college, and I regret it.

en21 06-07-2007 02:50 AM

start with some capital.. don't expect things for free

Sarah_Jayne 06-07-2007 02:57 AM

put some money up and stop thinking everything is free..buy your own domain instead of begging for a sponsor to buy you one..same deal with hosting..because in the long run it is much better to be the one in total control of those things.

I realize all the points you made are valid.
However, I would like a low overhead to start up the money making.
I beleive this is not only beneficial to me, but to the sponsor as well.
(Since I intend on working 20+ hours a day)

I do have short term and long term goals, which include 'total control' in the future. Right now this is not a possibility and I'd appreciate it if you would see it from my side and understand this.

No offense, but I hope your attitude is not that of the company that you're representing. You're showing a total lack of willingness to cooperate and help your affiliates, IMO.

I have no start up capital.. so I'm looking for "investors" aka sponsors that will help the little guy.

The little guy of today may be the big guy of tomorrow.. :2 cents:

Make ONE great site in a niche you personally enjoy, then ...

scottybuzz 06-07-2007 05:23 AM

My advice is once that you find something that makes you money. dont stop it, and run it on autopilot and start something new. Duplicate it 10 times and make 10x the money.

Juicy D. Links 06-07-2007 05:26 AM

get as many BROSSSSSSSSSSS as u can

da man 06-07-2007 05:27 AM

my advice: make love 3 times a day. dont do more nor less.

Paul Markham 06-07-2007 05:27 AM

Play the members game not the surfers or affiliates game. Three different people looking for different things.

Think like the person you are selling to. Try to understand why he buys, what motivates him and what will satisfy him.

It's also a very tough road for a newbie today. Keep building bookmarkers by giving them a reason to come back.

So why are you different than the 500 other noobs on the board that are in the same situation?

Advice.. Don't quit your day job until you are solid in what you are doing and don't ask for handouts.
