Stupid technical question (.jpg)
Ok so I reformatted my computer. Now all my pictures arent labeled outright with a .jpg or .bmp. Anyhow, I used to be able to just change the file name to the extention I wanted and it would actually change the properties as well. Also, I used to be able to see the extention when I "renamed" and it was highlighted in blue.
Now, it just makes the extention part of the name (i.e. picture.jpg.bmp) and it is still in its previous format. My question is: How do you change a file by renaming it and be able to see the extention when it is highlighted. Any help is appreciated. |

In windows explorer (NOT Internet explorer)
Top Menu --- Tools -- Folder Options -- View tab -- uncheck hide extensions for known file types -- at top hit apply to all folders Then you should be able to see your extensions

Also changing the file extension only changes the extension. It does not change the format of the file. To switch from bmp to jpg you need to convert the file using the appropriate software (photoshop, superjpg, whatever) (I could be wrong of course cause I've only been doing this stuff for a couple or 37 years)
