if you set the rules up front,be very clear and assume nothing. It could go fine.

I'm about to hire an online friend that I've had for years. We go way back on the boards and such. Once he has completed the test, it will be up to me to take him or not. However, even before taking the test, I told him that we go way back in the online world and all, but I will not tolerate a slacker when I pull off 24-hour work days to get things done on time. I'm not asking that he keeps my pace, but he must really work at it because I will not hesitate to let him go.

I have absolutely no pity for slackers. Slacking is all good, as long as it is done as far away from me as possible.

No, I sweat shop myself. I like to work and I like this business. Contract says that I'm only required to be here 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.

Sounds like there might be a reason why he doesn't have a job/money. It really all depends on the people. I've hired/worked for friends/family where sometimes it's awful, sometimes it's perfect.

Its a terrible idea and you know it thats why you made this thread. If you can afford to pay him for doing nothing I would say don't hire him just give him money. If you can't afford to just give the dude money at least you are thinking about him.

If the arrangement is professional and you have system in place it should be find. Make sure everything is clearly laid out and then the work relationship is on them to make it go smoothly.

I wouldnt do it. I treat my business like a business and when my friend started to slack off and I had to fire him, would most likely end the friendship.

If he was on top of things he wouldn't be broke now... what will happen is he will try for a week or 2, then things will fall apart... then a month from now, you will start a thread on gfy "How do I fire my friend without fucking up my friendship with him?"...

he will do what he wants anyway, i ike when people ask these questions and even if a million people tell them bad idea they still manage to tell themself some story how this guy is different then all the millions of friends disasters out there

its like a girl whos going out with a real bad guy everyone can tell her hes shit but she still does what she wants because "hes so not like that" and then she ends up getting restraining orders and her credit is fucked and shes on the way to an abortion clinic

your at a stage where u can avoid a real problem, avoid it

Dumbest post of the year... and probably the 10th out of 50k you have made on this board that I've actually seen.

From too much personal experience I would have to say...

BAD FUCKING IDEA, MAN!!!!

The only people I have "buddied" up with and actually made a lot of money is perfect strangers...

Like I read a thread here were someone has some good ideas or has a lot of drive but no ideas to apply it to... I grab them and make a partnership and we both make a few extra K a month on it...

But with friends you spend a few extra K and nothing comes from it except for your wife/girlfriend saying to you, "Either you fire him and never talk to him again or I am out because I can't handle this shit anymore!"

The friends and family plan will not work in the long run. Hire someone who doesn't know you, they will respect your authority.
