ARS ran a similar survey around 3 to 4 years ago. Massive response in the AFFIRMATIVE. I'm based in the Philippines now but my health insurance is US-based. Health insurance is extremely important (given the recent rising rate trend).

Would not qualify if it happened. Not a chance in hell it would cover anything with me.

Yeah, and it is not getting any cheaper for a family of five.
The risk of not having health insurance would be catastrophic to my entire family.

Speaking as someone who recently had cancer health insurance is a big deal. Had I not had excelent coverage treatment would have been in the 100,000$ range.

A group plan for webmaster would be excellent. We should be able to get better rates.

this would be a massive and I hate to say it... almost impossible challenge. Health insurance is state to state and each state has differing laws and regulations. I think it could be done under one corporation that covered all 50 of the US States and its territories but it would not be a simple matter.
as far as interested goes... Hell yes I am interested if the plan is good. I can get an over priced, high deductible policy that I cant afford myself spaz |

Roughly, how much does health insurance cost for say a family of 5, me, my wife, and 3 kids ??
I always thought that decent insurance would be in the $1,000 range, so I stayed away from it because I figure that if it'd cost me $12,000 a year for insurance, I'd be better off just paying the couple of office visits that happen in the year's time. We're still on the younger side, 32, but I'd like to dig into some because we're only getting older and that's when stuff starts happening. |

Yeah, that's true. I look at it this way though, I've been doing this full time for 6 years now without insurance, so 6 x $12,000 = $72,000 that I saved. In another couple of years, I'd have saved enough for heart bypass surgery, ha ha ha.

Here is the thing about not being insured, you pay the sticker price of medical care. If you have insurance, they negotiate down what you pay. For example, a $150 visit may only cost $100, even if you are still in your deductable. Now imagine if that was $150,000 bypass. The question about premiums depends on the size of the group and the demographics. Please visit this post http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=673116 about the group. |

I can't understand how some of these people here can claim to make six, seven figures per year.. but don't carry basic necessities like health insurance.

We self pay insurance since it's rare that companies offer it any longer. More people are without it than ever. Our insurance no longer covers 'well checkups or immunizations'. Do we have shitty insurance from Geiko? No... we pay huge money for Blue Cross Blue Shield. Our doctor told us that she doesn't even take her kids to the pediatrician unless they are really really sick. Each year, coverage is less and less and rates go up and up. The US is in a health care crisis. Saving your premium sounds like a good idea in case of emergency, but in our area.. you can't get seen at a doctor unless you are covered. If you are self pay at the ER, you will be sent home earlier. Tylenols are 100 dollars each in the hospital. Bring your own. My son had pneumonia and 4 days in Children's Hospital was $35,000.
Do we need insurance in our industry.. yes and it needs to be good quality so you can see a decent doctor. |

I finally have some health insurance now and it's nice to have. Sort of expensive but worth it. That secure feeling, like Raven said, is worth the money.

My insurance is $145 per month. You have to really shop around.
Having said that, I lived in the UK for 4 years under national health care, and I'll take the US system ANYTIME. .
