Mac is where it's at. I use PC's for my workstations, but have a Macpro for my video editing and also a mac laptop. The macpro can handle the 16GB of ram but be ready to tack on another 12K for just the ram. Macs are costly but worth every penny.

true, I still use Windows for certain things. Mainly because I have to, not want to.

At least though, Mac users can do whatever they need to do in Windows on the same computer, inside another window, or on a different partition. You gotta agree that's a pretty attractive feature.

It's not like you can drop into OS X and start using Final Cut Pro on a DELL ;)

So, I guess you could say a Mac is the only computer you'll ever need. Depending on what you do, OS X might not be the only operating system you ever need though.

I'm no zealot, I use both and respect anyone's decision. The problem is a lot of the 'macs suck' comments usually come from people who've probably never even used one for longer than 5 minutes. I'd never even touched a Mac before I bought one. I thought I'd try a powerbook to have hanging round the house and eventually wanted to use it for everything.

Come on now, there might be similarities, but even you can't tell me that the Mac OS hasn't looked and worked more like windows with ever release.

Macs are the one conforming to Windows more then the other way around.
You keep mentioning how Mac has things built in, but dont realize those same things "built in" are available for windows for free, and as I said already half of them are more or less what windows powertools has offered for years.

And now you also say the video card it comes with can do dual 30s, thast great, but guess what, you can order a PC that can do that too. And I get a choice of what brand I want, not stuck with what some dick in an office says I want.
I can go into any computer store in the country (and out of) and buy parts to upgrade anything, buy software, or jsut buy another computer from.
Mac stores are far and few between, and are usually suboutlets (around here anyways) where they dont have any actual stock even, and things have to be ordered.

I disagree, first off I can't recall the last time I ever went into a store to buy software. The Internet allows me to buy all the software I need without going into a store to get the same product in a huge cardboard box. Mac shareware is buzzing.

Secondly, every single Mac you can buy today can be updraged. So you can go buy Memory, Hard Drives, Optical Drives, Processors to install in your Mac just like you can any Windows machine. I installed a new 2.5" hard drive in my powerbook just last month.

Macs use EXACTLY THE SAME components as PC's so it's not like you need to go to a Mac store to be able to upgrade your Mac. A hard drive is a hard drive.

And regarding Windows having stuff built in, OS X wipes the floor with Windows when you compare the standard features. Windows XP doesn't even come with a DVD decoder FFS!!

And IMO the Vista feature set is an embarrasing copy of all the features that Mac users have been using for the last 2 years....seriously

etc....
..I dunno how the big wigs at microsoft can all sit down together at a metting and agree to call their new interface 'Windows Aero', they must be retarded. I'm suprised they didn't call their new MP3 player the 'iZune'.

Even if you are the biggest Microsoft fan on the planet, you have say that all the BIG features that MS shout about in their Vista blurb are basically their version of the same features in OS X.

Hardly anything has Mac drivers unless it comes with that brand native in the mac. And half the drivers are beta.


Why does it matter if windows copied the "feature set" from Mac? As I said, Mac looks more and more like windows with every release.
But then 75% of that "feature set" that windows stole has been part of windows powertool since 98.

Personally I dont give a shit who stole what or anything as long as I end up with a good product, if that means each OS needs to "borrow" the best from the other to make themself better then by all means do it, We both know OS's arent the only place that happens, just load up any two links off this board and have a look.

I am not a MS fan, but I am not a Mac fan either. I use the one thats easier for me to get what I need to get done, done. If Windows is easier for me for the simple fact that I have used it the longest, then so be it, I just hate the Mac fans that make it their purpose to prove Mac is better, and the best they can come up with is that Windows stole the features....

PS, I used to run Redhat way back befor windows 98 was out, and then switched to FreeBSD shorty after 98 was out, and dual booted. XP was when I didnt use freebsd enough to warrent keeping it on my drive. And I Have played around with macs on many occasions.

Are you serious? I can't think of many things that aren't gonna work with my Macs. Printers, scanners, digital cameras, usb drives etc etc pretty much anything worth using will work with macs. The statement you make above sounds pretty weak. What exactly are you refering to specifically?

If Windows is copying mac, how can the mac look more and more like windows with every release? surely you mean windows looks more like the mac with every release?

And I don't get your powertoys point either...aren't powertoys just a few extra options/tweaks to the OS?

That's not what I did though. I was simply answering your statement about 'OS X looking more and more like windows with every release'. I'm not at all saying OS X is better because Windows often copies it. Nor am I trying to prove the Mac is better. 'Better' is an opinion...and I have no issue with anyone prefering Windows over OS X.

I've always used PCs. Then I got a job that forced me to set up a mac lab with an xserv and 24 Imacs. it was awful, mostly because this was late '02 and OSX had just come out, and it was buggy. Apple care reps had to replace 18 of the 24 machines.

I found though, when i got the damn thing working, that I could see why Apple folks liked the mac. it has appeal, but I could never get comfortable with it.

They're just different. Different look. Different feel. Different subtleties. I sit down in front of a mac, my productivity suffers. i feel like i've got one arm tied behind my back. I suspect a mac user goes through the same thing when he sits down in front of a pc.

The one thing I find easier about the PC is in the area of global communications, and at the most basic level. When you're trying to show someone something online, perhaps to someone who is not all that tech-savvy, it's A LOT EASIER knowing they're using the exact same operating system you are, when you start in with the, "Okay, now click Start, then programs, locate adobe"... etc.

I have had a PC since before the 286, and I still use one.

My first Mac was a Quadra 840AV, about 10 years after my first PC.

I still own and use both, but the Mac has always been a better computer to use.

Most of the people arguing for Windows haven't been on a Mac OS for more than 30 minutes.

A PC, the computer, is great, same components are available for PC and Macs, it's Windows that sucks ass. This is because Microcrap is terrible at what they do. Most of their success is not from stuff they have created but from programs other smaller companies, with programmers who actually knew what they were doing, then Microsoft buys them and calls it theirs. When Microsoft actually develops a product, it is pure fucking crap.

From what I've read about Vista, it's a consumers nightmare. I believe Symantec and some others, are actually even suing them even as we speak, for making it so that you have to use Microsofts antivirus & adware protection by disallowing other programs access to important areas of the software. I would NEVER EVER trust Microsoft with my antivirus & adware protection, that is computer suicide. It's almost always Microsoft created software that creates the securty holes in the first place.

I am not saying that the PC hardware is not the same or better than Mac, but what good is the hardware if the software running it sucks tits?

dude, I know what power TOYS are. If you think 75% of the Windows 'Feature set' is from power toys (or 'power tools' as you refered to them, perhaps you need to google it eh?) then you're clueless. Power toys are a set of tweaks that don't even come with the OS in the first place.

Did I even bring up the mac?? you need to read this thread again and actually see who brought up the subject of the mactintosh, cause it certainly wasn't me.

I'm not interested in the whole mac vs pc thing, but when YOU make statements that are just BS, they gotta be answered.

When i started using macs, I felt like that too. It's just the fact that you're used to Windows as was I, all the habits you take for granted that dont work on a mac. I remember at first I hated not having a taskbar.

Now, I can switch between OS X and Windows without any problems. The only time I get mixed up is when I try to run expose in XP out of habit.
