How much should you tip a building contractor for a job done well?

If a contractor does a good job and meets the budget and time frame, how much should we tip him?

Do what my cousin does, he rewards his people with a night at the clit club. Or in your case, maybe he can receive a nice (and unexpected) lap dance from a hot dancer in the privacy of his office room. And make sure the girl is a good dancer, not those hookers disguised as "exotic dancers".

as far as I'm concerned you only tip your waiter, the cab driver, the hairdresser, and a whore

Buy him some balloons and confetti from the dollar store.

Contractors already make themselves a handsome profit. Why the fuck would you also toss in a tip - simply for doing his job?

Giving a contractor a budget just lets him know beforehand how much he's going to mark stuff up to stiff you.

yeah i would think a building contractor would get paid a salary. no tip needed.

however, if he did an amazing job, and you feel like rewarding him....do it with a night out or a gift of some sort.

No tip required. If you think he did an awesome job then let him know you'll refer him to everyone you know. Personal Referrals are the best tip and payoff the most.

Absolutely nothing. I already pay a lot of money to get the job done and consider myself lucky if they can be bothered to show up.

You're going to tip someone becuase they did the job they said they would do, in the time frame specified, and on the budget specified?

I wouldn't tip a penny, he did what was expected, how it was expected, and when it was expected.. If he came in 2 weeks early, or under budget, sure I'd tip him, but for being on time and on budget, fuck that.

I need to get in the contracting business.

Theres no tip required. Neither is one expected or should not be.
Having said that, if you are working with a company where the owner/saleperson does not do any of the phsyical labor, tipping the guys who are bustin' their ass and gettin' paid peanuts is always appreciated.
How much? $50-100.

Make sure they're doing a good job and the work is done correctly before doing so.

Like others have said, you don't tip your contractor. Just refer him to those you know who need work done. A contractor's business thrives on word of mouth.

Recommend him to others, send him some work if he did you right.

Tips are for waitresses, bartenders, and strippers.

PS, I work part time as a contractor.

Trades people who actually do the physical work are generally paid well, and if not...that's their fault for working for someone who pays them shit wages.

If its a very hot day and the guys are doing roofing or something physically demanding...offer them a cold beer. But as for a tip...notta.

Like I said a tip is not required. But Alex ask so I expressed my opinion.
At best these guys are makin $15 an hour depending on their trade/level of experience but lets say they're makin $20 hr. Still not enough to live on.

As far as offering a beer I never understood that. Its really dumb when you think about. I've had people offer me beer while working, I always refuse. When you finish for the day they'll say, how about one for the road'? Even dumber idea.
