Are You Relying on Javascript?

I have a web application which generates up to 500 niche crosslinked Text-GP pages using sponsor FHGs.

To reduce the overhead of the theme crosslinks (and facilitate custom pruning by the affiliate/client) I would like to use a javascript 'include' for the navigation but I'm not sure how much (if any) of the surfer traffic would be excluded (because of JS being turned off on the browsers).

What do you think?

Do most surfers leave JS on?

Thanks!

In short: yes.

But why don't you test your own traffic first?

i think most people leave javascript on, or else most of the links they click on would not work.

I think so too.

When I weigh out the advantages over the tiny percentage lost, it's a no brainer.

Here's a link to a sample batch using my JS approach:

http://dinocortez.com/text-gallery-p...e/amateur.html

This used to be over 8 megs of HTML - now it's less than 2.5 megs.

Plus, it looks like the JS includes are being cached so the pages load fast!

This looks like a keeper approach.

Thanks for your comments!
