These people claim to offer a free P3P compliant privacy policy generator:

yeppers. P3P compliancy is easy to achieve. The IMPORTANT thing is to know that P3P will affect referrer ID's.

MS doesn't support normal P3P policies, all you have to do is put something in the header.. if you do it like you are suppose to cookies won't work

I was just posting that as an alternative to the pay service you linked.

As far as the missing clicks, the only ones who can fix that are the sponsors, correct? And it benefits them if they don't fix it, at least in the short run, right? Hmmmm.

That's a good point. But, fixing it, and moving to something like P3P would be a great way to market your program. Once something like this becomes general knowledge for the adult webmaster, it might be something they'd look for in a sponsor.

okay. for those who don't want to read the article, let me sum up the situation. the newest version of the browser that the majority of the world uses REFUSES third-party cookies by DEFAULT. Many adult sponsor programs incorporate third-party cookies to track the sales of thier affiliated webmasters...

are you following this?

what defines a "third-party cookie" - a cookie that is set from a remote url while you are looking at a different one?

do you know of a list of sponsors that use third party cookies? the ones I use ( I only use a few) either use my refid in the URI or issue me a linking code which sends my surfers to the CC processor. They issue a cookie on their servers (making it a legit cookie I believe) and then redirect the surfer to the sponsors web page. The cookie gets checked if/when the surfer gets back to the CC processor's billing page.

It would be handy to have a list of sponsors that did rely on third party cookies.

cheers

i'm no fucking expert, but i think a third-party cookie comes from a site "other" than the one the surfer is actually at. like the average TGP gallery builder with a referrer ID code in their affiliate link.

no. i do not have such a list. i just know that many affiliate webmasters have noticed their refferer cookies get clicked all the way to their sponsor's sign-up page, then disappear.

ask your sponsor. many do not use third-party cookie codes. some use PHP or other means. it's up to you as an affiliate to police your sponsors.

would you know of one? I'd like to take a peek at it if you do. If not, no big whoop. CCBill is good example of what I was talking about. the linking urls look like this:

http://refer.ccbill.com/cgi-bin/clicks.cgi?CA=XXXXXX-0000&PA=294003&HTML=http://drunkspringbreakgirls.com/enter3.html

The cookie gets set on the CCBill domain and then CCBill redirects the user off to the sponsor. If the user makes it back to the billing stage everything is legit as the billing takes place on CCBill's domain. The sponsor can't get at the cookie (probably for the best ;-) during the tour without redirecting the client back to CCBill. I use websitebilling as a processor on a site and they do it the same way.

Interesting article, worth getting servers p3p compliant I guess.

cheers

well, if your sponsor is P3P compliant then you are good in the game. there are many sponsors who are not. a lot of affiliate webmasters are not aware of this standard or the default settings in IE6. just informing the masses

I was testing some sites with a P3P validator and it says that:

Sex.com does seem to be compliant:
http://validator.w3.org/p3p/20020128...www.sex.com%2F

Yahoo.com isn't compliant:
http://validator.w3.org/p3p/20020128...www.sex.com%2F

You can check URL's here:
http://www.w3.org/P3P/validator.html

Assuming that the tool actually works, someone should run the list of all the major adult sponsors and see who comes up P3P valid and who doesn't.

I don't think they have policy files, I dunno, they might (I don't on mine); just pointing out that the cookies do get set and stick as long as they are set on the same domain as the billing goes through on.

cheers

Guys, relax. This has been discussed here on GFY many times already.

All you need to do is to add a short line to your HTTP header and MSIE 6.x will have no troubles accepting third party cookies. It's called "compact policy".

The line can look for example like this:

P3P: CP="NOI DSP CURa PSAa PSDa OUR STP COM NAV STA"

That's it. No other changes or files neccessary. The P3P is a joke...
