quoted from bbc.com

Round Eight: Tyson charges out once again to try and catch Lewis by surprise. The American's reach is far smaller than that of Lewis' and can only land body shots. Tyson suddenly collapses to one knee as Lewis reaches for the killer blow only to be stopped by referee Cotton. Tyson is counted out once. The American rises again but is knocked to the floor by Lewis. The fight is stopped and Lewis retains his world championship titles.

I was two rounds off on my prediction!!!!!! YESSS YOU GO LEWIS!!!!!!!!!!

Tysons style is to go forward and bludgeon his opponent. Could not work tonight, he kept going forward into Lewis's jab.

Tyson and his corner knew they were beaten by the end of the fourth. The corner were asking him to give them his best for one round.

WOOT!... in the first round i thought there was going to be trouble when tyson came out like he was on speed... he looked like he was a decade younger... i'd just put down $50 on lewis and started to worry! but just like i'd said earlier lewis dominated with his jab.. not quite what he did with Tua as Tyson got a few shots in.. but he also got fucked up a lot more than Tua did.. theres just not much they can do against someone with lewis's reach advantage..
the guys seperating them in the ring at the start was a bunch of shit.. just to hype it more.. at the end tyson took defeat like a fucking champ.. gave "love and respect" to lewis and his mum.. said all the BS he'd spoken about earlier was just to hype the fight.. definately not "the animal" people think of him..

anyways it was a great fight.. I wish tyson could have got into it a little more.. and i felt sorry for him as he was obviously not in the fight from around round 4 on.. Lewis was surprised as hell he didn't drop him with some of his big shots.. I kept on wanting him to at least crack lewis a little before Lewis finished him off..but lewis is physically too hard to get to, and well as being a much better boxer..

Tyson needed too much luck to get a wild haymaker in..
even though Lewis leant on him the whole match.. i didn't matter he is and will continue to be the better boxer.

amazing fight.

tyson started off like a bulldog but he couldn't sustain it for long. lewis kept him at length and tyson couldn't get close. i actually snoozed off in the 3rd round... ;)

i hope that lewis goes ahead and milks this for all its worth.

I know I did. I just ordered $7k worth of new windows to this dump. The $1k I just won will ease that bill greatly.

The question is....was I banking on Tyson's being a wimp?....or was I banking on Lewis being the kickass boxer that he is?

Only my branch manager knows for sure. Oddly, her name is "France". :D

though he'll always have supporters it seems like tyson really is a has been, certainly in comparison to lewis.

the sad reality for tyson is that he'll probably end up doing something stupid once again, ending up dead or in jail. of course hes a tough motherfucker, but he has barely any future after his boxing career.

He is a has-been.

Lewis was fighting to keep his title and prove he's good.

Tyson was fighting to get out of debt and it showed.

Excellent!

Its about time tyson was put out to pasture.. RIP

Lewis = professional, skilled, boxer that gives the sport a good name

Tyson = moronic animal that got lucky a few times in the ring and brought the sport down into the gutter

The better man won by far..

tyson got lucky a few times? very few ppl have ripped through the heavyweight division like tyson did in the 80's. as much as ppl hate tyson as a man, he is just what the heavyweight division needs.

Tyson reminded me of Homer Simpson in that episode where he won all fight cuz he let the opponent punch him until he was totally exhausted. Fortunately Lennox is a whole lot tougher

Tyson was a fighter but I don't think he was a boxer.. he overwhelmed his opponents with his ferocity and power.. Lewis on the other hand is a boxer and has power.. and is not a psycho!

Tyson showed the world in the 80's a man with a lisp isn't always a sissy

I think thats about the only accomplishment he made though!

Actually, when Tyson was younger and first started his boxing career and won the titles at the age of 20, he may very well have been the best boxer ever. His strength was unmatched, his hand speed was matched only by Ali (in the heavyweight division), he had a chin that couldn't be rocked and he could in fact move (although it was always forward, which was kinda cool).

It was only after Cus died and Tyson lost his focus with no one to guide him that Tyson turned into a psychopath.

I honestly think if Cus D'Amoto had not died, Tyson would be regarded today as the best heavyweight ever without question, and he definitely would not have had all the extraneous problems he ended up having.

i think ur 100% correct. cus was like his father. i'm still in awe when i see tyson's early fights, much like when i watch ali, frazier or foreman.

Whatever. Tyson=toast. I could care less about what he did in the 80's. I'm a thou richer tonight, and that's all that matters. :D I think Evander Holyfield kicked as much ass as Tyson ever did. Maybe more, and better, and more eloquently I might add.

i wouldn't say that. if he puts together a couple big wins against good fighters he'll get another shot. he's a pretty good payday for whoever fights and money is a big part of it.

This was my final prediction of the fight in a different thread:

Quote:
My final prediction about the way the fight will go:

Tyson will not knock out Lewis in the first few rounds. Lewis will keep him on the outside with his jab.

Tyson will then become frustrated and do something stupid and be knocked out by Lewis or will be disqualified.

Bottom line a Lewis knockout of Tyson or a Tyson disqualification.
Having watched the fight this is my critique of the fight.

Tyson came to the fight and did what Tyson had to do and that was to take the fight to Lewis and try to get on the inside.

Tyson did get on the inside several times, but Lewis would immediately tie him up.

In addition Lewis nailed him about three different times with uppercuts. Also as I recall he also nailed Tyson with a couple of right hands.

These punches hurt Tyson. I think by the 3rd round (could have been the fourth) Tyson's legs were not under him, he had sustained a cut, and appeared to be somewhat dazed.

The steam had been knocked out of him, he had enough of trying to get on the inside (his only chance of winning the fight) and Lewis took him apart after that point on.

Now some people are saying Tyson didn't bring it, Tyson didn't fight the way he should have, Lewis got lucky, and Tyson would have beat Lewis in his younger days, etc.

Tyson brought it with him, started out fighting the fight that he needed to fight. Lewis's tactic of tying him up on the inside and the power of the uppercuts and right hands basically took all of the fight out of Mike.

Lewis did not get lucky. He fought the fight exactly as he should have and it paid off.

For those of you that have said Tyson was a great boxer when he was younger and would have beaten Lewis then. It is my opinion that this is not true. He had limited boxing skills. He was a heavy puncher, and was very aggressive and this won him fights. If the young Tyson would have fought the old Lewis of tonight the results would have been the same.

Lewis is now a better boxer then Tyson ever was and though he is not now, nor has he ever been the heavy puncher that Tyson was, Lewis still has knock out power in either hand and is a power puncher himself.

The outcome of the fight was inevitable other than the off chance that Tyson would nail Lewis with a solid shot.

i disagree about tyson fighting the fight he needed to. i think he should have worked the body early on. u gotta take the bounce out of a jabbers step. he was moving good in the first, then he stopped moving and lewis started connecting. which tells me tyson wasn't in very good shape if he tired that easy.

lewis fought perfect i thought. he jabbed and when tyson ducked lewis nailed him. it was like lewis knew exactly where tyson was moving. i think part of that was because tyson was moving a lot slower after the first round.

i also disagree about lewis being able to beat a young tyson. i think lewis could have given him a great fight, but tyson was much more aggresive, fast and a lot more accurate. i don't think tyson even used a combination in the whole fight. he made it look easy for lewis. we could argue this point all day tho.

that might be decent. i think tyson would destroy him. then maybe a holyfield rematch which could be a big draw.

anyways, did u guys see lewis while the ref was giving instructions in the dressing room? he looked like he borrowed a bowl from fletch or something.

Drove an hour to a friend's house in order to see the fight. What a waste of gas. I felt sorry for Tyson when Lewis literally knocked his head off.

Tyson will never be the fighter he use to be. First off, he has no real trainer. He kept firing the good ones. When he lost to Buster Douglas, the only one he had in his corner was a bunch of punk ass posse. They can't even heal a little puff in Tyson's eye, until Buster made it bigger. Don King milked every penny from him, and basically, his mental capacity to fight was and still is done.

What a waste. If he had the focus and mental capacity, he could easily dispose just about anyone facing him. The fight with Lewish was pathetic. Tyson threw no combination whatsoever. I think he manage to throw one uppercut. The old Tyson would have uppercut Lewis to death in a barrage of punches. In this particular fight, everytime Lewis got close, all Tyson did was hug him.

I taped the fight. I am going to watch it several times to see if what I recall happening is in fact what happened.

i disagree about tyson fighting the fight he needed to. i think he should have worked the body early on. u gotta take the bounce out of a jabbers step. he was moving good in the first, then he stopped moving and lewis started connecting. which tells me tyson wasn't in very good shape if he tired that easy.
Tyson could not work the body. He had to get inside to work the body. Lewis for the most part tied him up when he got on the inside. In the effort I believe Lewis connected with three solid uppercuts and a couple of good rights.

I maintain that Tyson did not run out of steam because of being old, or under/over trained, but ran out of steam because Lewis punches knocked the steam out of him.

I don't think that some of the Tyson apologists are giving enough credit to Lewis for his punching power.

Non the less I do not expect to convince anyone, but for my own satisfaction I am going to review the tape several times to see exactly what it was the took the steam out of Tyson.

I will add one other thing one of Mikes ex-trainers has said about Tyson. I will only paraphrase as I don't have a quote. Something along the lines that Tyson has alwasy been insecure about his boxing skills, is basically a bully, and like most bullies are, is basically a coward at heart.

I for one think that Tyson could have made the count, but he chose not too. I also think that it would not have done him any good to make the count.

Of course like most things a fight is subjective.

Well, I just now discovered that I left the tape at my son's house and I don't feel like driving there at this point in time. I will call and tell him to bring the tape next time he visits.

think it was the 7th round where tyson finally started hittin the body. connected with 3 punches that round to the body i believe. much easier to hit than the face.

pound someones ribs for a few rounds and they'll be fealing it. lewis wouldn't have been bouncing around as much, his hands would be lower and it drains you as the fight wears on.

lewis fought a great fight and i have a lot more respect for him as a boxer now.
