Why are people so quick to get married?

Here are my rules to getting married:

1. You should be boyfriend/girlfriend for minimum 2 years before getting engaged. None of this getting engaged 6 months after meeting eachother bullshit!

2. Nobody should get married until they are at least 30 years old. None of this getting married at 21 bullshit!

3. Once engaged, you should be engaged for roughly 6 months before the wedding.

You should add to this that you must live together for at least 1 years time before the wedding takes place. Relationships can change dramatically when two people move into together; you'll find out things about the other persons little quirks and habits that you would never know about if you hadn't lived together for some period of time already.

9 times out of 10 I would agree with you. There are exceptions though. My husband proposed after 3 months of knowing each other. We moved in together at 6 months and got married at 11 months of knowing each other. Been married nearly 3 years now with our first baby on the way and are still happy. I guess I just got lucky. (We also have a big age gap, I'm 23 and he's 34 but for us it works. I suppose it helps that we both think of ourselves as mid 20's in lifestyle.)
