I don't know why the pictures are offensive but I'm not Muslim either. If a newspaper here showed a picture of God or Jesus in an anti-religious way, would it be wrong if Christians boycotted the newspaper in protest? Maybe it would be overreacting but it is their right and as a newspaper and business, what your readers think should be important to you. Boycotting is a form of freedom of expression.

The paper has the right to say what they want, the muslims have the right to make them pay for it by boycotting because they do not like it. No one has the right to attack someone because they simply do not like something. Does not matter what we think about it being offensive or not, will not change how they see it. Well there is indeed a risk of that happening if mainstream Governments don't get in check with reality and the opinions of their people, instead of constantly pumping new immigrants into their nations and calling everyone a racist who resists it. My honest thought is that the risk of Civil War in Europe in the next 50 or so years is certainly a possibility. You only have to look at when something does fire up (such as the Van Gogh murder) the violent outbursts were comming from both sides and were quite sustained. It totally pisses me off that European Governments just fail to act responsibly on this matter, because if they continue along this path the chance of increasing violence is enormous. It is so incredible to try and slam this many hugely different people into a nation so quickly, to the point where they are on their way to being the majority. Europeans are generally very tolerant, but like you mentioned that is wearing very thin, and the chance of a democratically elected far-right politician is very strong also.

A boycot is a allowed response in my eyes.
I think the Danish government should not apologise and that papers can print those cartoons. People in Islam countries can choose not to buy Danish products any more though. Just like the Americans were boycotting Frenc products for a while. Its all okay with me to send out a signal in a non violent way. It would be very cool though if other countries with freedom of press would also print thos cartoons in newspapers. It would send out a signal and the heat for the Danish would be diffused.

It would be a triumphant 'victory' for freedom of speech is all muslims were to boycott denmark, I mean leave the country. I bet dutch + german press would quickly print some toons of their own.
