Good notebook for $1400 or less
Hey,
I need to buy a notebook today that will be good for taking on the road to work on webstuff. It doesn't need a 500X CDRW or DVD drive. I want something with a modem and network card built in that I can do ftp, excel, and dreamweaver. I wouldn't even use the CD except for loading programs. I need to go to a store and buy this in a few hours. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

I've been looking as well and Sony seems to be the best thing going....
And you should be able to stay under $1400 pretty easy, if you don't want alot of bells and wistles...

I dont know your experience with sony, but I can tell about my Compaq experience.
I got my compaq 2 years ago. It is dead for the 2nd time. The first time the screen just mysteriously stopped working. I sent it in and they fixed it under warrenty. Less than 6 months later, it starts shutting down and not powering back up at random. When I had someone look at it, they opened the CD tray, turned it sideways and the damn heat sink came flying out! How is that for great craftsmanship?! My new laptop is a sony vaio and it is awesome! built in wireless and ethernet, slimdock w/dvd and cd-rw and 3.75 lbs too boot! You dont have to like sony, but be aware that compaq laptops suck! twinkley |

If you want to save money, that is. It's not that Mead can't do ftp it's just that your host is not set up right. Get the Viao if you just have to conform ...

my suggestion is to stick with a dell or sony hp is simply to expensive although the may look nice but they miss power inside |
