3. Have you ever had to bail Tony (or any other industry friends) out of jail?

No I have never had to bail any industry friends out of jail?I have bailed out many non-industry friends!

I have spent many an hour trying to figure out how to get Tony?s limo bus and driver across the Canadian border. We succeeded one time, but failed the second?we ended up leaving the driver and bringing the bus in by itself!! I miss not going to Montreal, Fay?s show was a lot of fun back then. Don?t get me wrong, I like San Diego too and the Ynot has done a great job of helping to build that show, but I did like Montreal?.I think it was the French girls!

Of course, I would happily bail out anyone of my friend who needed it! Feel free to call me if you need bailing out of jail...555-123-45678910.

Hey Garou,

Great question! I am more than happy to name names!

First, Steve (Maestro) founded the company four years ago and made it what it is today. His ideas truly changed the hosting industry by making this unique system a major force in hosting (more on that later).

I bought the company from Steve in May, but Steve agreed to stay on for an additional year to help with the transition. Steve is still involved with the day to day operation of the company and spends a lot of his time working with existing customers and their needs.

Roger is my Senior System Administrator. Roger worked for NationalNet for several years before joining me at RevShare Hosting. Roger manages our whole tech department. At present we have four tech guys who work for Roger thus giving us complete 24/7/365 technical support.

Jman joined our team last month and heads up our marketing department. So far his innovations have been astounding. We now do blog hosting and have implemented weekly chat seminars. I have been friends with Jman for years and it really rocks to get to work together!!

Rob Amodeo joined us in September and runs our newest department GayRevShare Hosting (www.gayrevsharehosting.com). This new division is really taking off, so if you build gay galleries, you should check out what Rob can do for you.

Of course, we have a couple of programmers and web designers also. I also wanna plug Rick's company iWebmasters (www.iwebmasters.com) as they have really helped me in getting the tech staff and support I need to provide the 24/7/365 technical support.

I think that's all of us. We have a great crew at RSH!

You know Poppy, one of the great things about our industry is you can be great friends with your toughest competitors. I have been great friends with you, DavidD when he was with Candid, Jim from Techie Media (who is in a picture with me on page one), Brad from MojoHost, and of course, Sean from CaveCreek/CCBill has been my friend forever.

What an awesome, tightknit industry we have.

GTS Mark 11-01-2005 04:37 PM

I think the funniest thing I should comment about Matt happened just a week or two ago...

I was approached by Jman to do a deal with Matt from Revsharehosting? So I have chatted with Maestro before (a long time ago) but I had no idea who this new "Matt guy" was that owned it? I was having one of those days where everyone was bugging me for this or that... So I more or less impolietely told Jman I was not interested at this time to do anything.

Then a week ago I found out Matt from National Net bought this company and was the "Matt" Jman was talking about.

Man did I ever feel like a fool! I begged Jman to revisit the deal he put infront of me and to do something together. Matt is one of those people in the industry that was exceptionally friendly and courteous to me when I was a nobody. He made sure I always felt welcome and got me into National Net Parties even though I wasn't a client LOL!

Well as fate would have it we just ordered 20 servers from National Net and Matt is no longer there LOL! But we still love Natnet and their awesome service!

Anyways Matt is 1st class in my book and I appreciate his friendship. I would fully encourage anyone that needs hosting for galleries to give him a shout and try out his great service.

Good Times!

I actually meet Matt at the show in Florida in 2002 on Tony?s bus. Both Matt and Tony were both so generous. At the time I was mutual fund wholesaler and was invited to the show by my friend Nathan. I was not even in the industry and both of them knew it, but treated me like royalty. After that weekend at the show, I left my wife, and made a promise to myself to get into this business one way or another and I did. Matt and I have had some great times together over the years and he is a true person that I could never say enough good things about. SPACash is excited to learn more about his new venture and how we can all benefit. For those of you that have not met Matt, be sure to just walk up to him at the show in LA. He is one of the industries best!

Matt Collins 11-01-2005 06:50 PM

Gerard, you da man!! I love this guy! Yeah Peaches another man crush!!

I can't wait to hang out together in LA and to getting Spa Cash into RevShare Hosting!

Matt

Matt Collins 11-01-2005 06:54 PM

Speaking of mancrushes...on with the countdown...

4. Why are Rick Latona and Steve Lightspeed your best friends?

My friendship with both guys started out because they were customers of NationalNet and I always took care of NatNet?s major accounts. Rick and I fell into a natural friendship because we both live in Atlanta and go out socially on a regular basis. We get along great when we drink because Rick likes to talk and I like to listen?what a perfect combination!!

Steve and I became friends the same way, but I only saw Steve at shows. However, over time our friendship developed to where it is today?Steve let?s me personally ?interview? every new Lightspeed girl candidate. It?s a tough job, but someone?s gotta do it!

The funny thing is that Steve (a content producer) and Rick (the operator of Consumption Junction, which posts submitted images) did not like each other because of a natural tension over copyright issues. I managed to get them to actually do business together and ultimately become friends. I am proud to say that the three of us are without a doubt best friends for each other in a manly threesome kind of way (if you know what I mean).

I know the three of us still run business ideas by each other constantly, and I wouldn?t be where I am today without their friendship. In fact, I look forward to seeing Steve again at Webmaster Access (cheap plug for GFY?s favorite trade show!).

Now Rick and I have become business partners in DigiPawn, the domain pawn shop (paid commercial message: if you need cash and have valuable domains, come to DigiPawn and we can Hook You UP!)

There is no easy answer as to why you become friends with some people and why you don?t with others. I have made a ton of friends in this industry and I make new ones everyday!

Matt

Matt Collins 11-01-2005 07:25 PM

5. What inspired you to go work for yourself?

I have always wanted to work for my self. I went to law school with the only goal being to start my own practice. I left my law practice to work for Tony because I believed that move would be the next step to building long term wealth.

Jack Welch wrote a whole book on this subject: ?Control your own destiny or someone else will,? and I took what I learned in that book to heart. Though this is one of the few self help business books that I have read (Rick may swear by them, but they mostly bore me). I really got a lot out of the basic idea that the money to be made in this world goes to those who take the most risk through starting and building your own business.

When I left NationalNet, I got a lot of supportive comments, but the one that really struck home the most was the one from Ron Cadwell who said: ?You can?t keep an entrepreneur from doing his own thing.? That is so true and really affirmed that I had made the right decision. Words of wisdom from a very successful entrepreneur!

Matt

Phoenix 11-01-2005 07:30 PM

Matt is top notch...a great guy for sure

Matt Collins 11-01-2005 08:35 PM

The countdown continues. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be!

6. What kind of Law did you used to practice? How did it help you in this business?

Since I opened my law practice to be an entrepreneur, I practiced food law?that is anything that would put food on the table hahaha61514; When I started, I really did a lot of everything: business, criminal, divorce, you name it!

That said, over time I did focus my practice on small business needs. I did the contracts to sell the same dry cleaners five times! I did a fair amount of litigation, but I always felt my real skills were negotiating settlement deals. I was at my best in mediation or at the settlement table.

Over the seven years I was in private practice, I became a very good negotiator and I learned to never give up. Probably the most important thing I learned was to build win-win settlements. When you go to trial, there is guaranteed to be a loser, and often even the winner is not happy because they did not win enough!

Negotiation skills have served me well both at NationalNet and at RevShare Hosting. I still negotiate like hell to make a deal. Sometimes, I have been accused of going to far to close the deal, but I am committed to keeping a customer at almost any cost and getting new customers if it is at all profitable. I may lose money on some deals, but long term, I think it?s the right strategy in a very competitive industry like hosting.

Matt

reed_4 11-01-2005 08:44 PM

that is a nice interview. :thumbsup

Matt Collins 11-01-2005 09:03 PM

7. What was it like being Tony's right hand man?

Exhausting!

It was cool as Tony certainly knew how to roll. The VIP thing was beyond comprehension if you have never done it.

I tell my friends that there are two ways to see Vegas, the public way and the Tony way.

The good news is that I learned how to roll like Sweet T, so I am pretty good at swinging some weight around myself.

As for the general job of being Tony's righ hand man, I did a little bit of everything. From going to clubs to having to go to Falcons games and sitting in the suite. Tough life...of course, we had to work the next day after all of it. Remember our motto...if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. No matter what, if we go out, you gotta be in the office the next day. I still live by that rule even working for myself.

I have heard these accusations before and investigated everyone of them when I was there. None of them had any merit then and I suspect nothing has changed.

Here is what I found: almost all password sites were fake sites used to promote various programs.

We found no lolita sites on the network. Tony felt so strongly about this matter, that he has turned down many legal customers because of his personal convictions. Moreover, he put his money where his mouth is and has joined ASACP as a founding sponsor and is personally committed and professionally committed to fighting child porn.

If you or anyone find CP, please let Bill know at bill AT natnet DOT com and I feel confident they will take care of it.

Likewise if anyone finds a site like this at RevShare Hosting, please let me know immediately and we will likewise take immediate action.

How's that for an answer???

First of all, this is MATT'S thread. This is not about NatNet...this is about Matt, so please don't try to hijack this thread and turn it into "bash NatNet" thread.

Secondly, if you have anything other than the desire to stir up shit, then please contact me at bill AT natnet DOT com and I will personally investigate any illegal sites.

Now...back to Matt's interview :-)

I have to say that I am very proud to have previously worked along side Matt and am even more proud to see him do so well with his new venture. :thumbsup

Nat Net is a great company ran by great people, I doubt a thread full of bashing is even possible.

Matt, you are a great guy and this is an interesting read.

Thanks Cory and Bill. You are both great guys! When it comes to running a web hosting company, there is no one better out there than Bill!
