No brainer. SATA is faster. There's no application that IDE would be better at than SATA.

Definitely SATA. If you can, get a SATA Western Digital Raptor drive. They spin at 10,000 RPM instead of the 7200 RPM that every other SATA/IDE drive spins at. They are available in 74GB and 36GB capacities for $190 and $115 respectively.

While SATA is faster, it's more prone to errors and data corruption.

SATA is much faster and good value. Good to setup a RAID 5 with them as they can be slightly more prone to errors as mentioned above.

What do you think of Seagate's NCQ feature? They claim that their 7200rpm drives can perform as well as a 10000rpm drive without NCQ. Seems a bit dubious to me. I mean, it makes sense and all, but i haven't seen any independant benchmarks yet to prove it. I'd be pretty impressed if it were true. And then you'd have to start thinking about a 10k rpm drive with NCQ. Mmm.

Native Command Queuing (NCQ)

"In simple terms, NCQ functioning is somewhat similar to an elevator. The elevator travels sequentially from floor to floor and lets people on and off. It does not follow the sequence in which users push the floor request buttons, because that would mean an excessive mechanical load and much longer times for waiting or riding"

SATA and only use Seagate drives. They are by far the best!

with one drive you are not going to see a noticable speed difference in ide vs sata, true the sata interface can transfer more data, but that doesn't mean the drives can fill it. now for a serious video editing box, look at a 3+ drive raid 5 array, and get one of them pci-x sata raid cards then you will see a difference.

SATA have a bigger datatransfer rate so for videoediting they are the option. For normal desktoping there are no difference.
