I thought it was supposed to be good. WTF happened? I was actually considering going to see it. What made it so bad?

It has an insane IMDB rating ( http://imdb.com/title/tt0379786/ ), but i seriously have my doubts of it being any good.

Seems everyone on IMDB disagrees with you.

Though from reading a bit about it, I dont think its the kind of film I like either, but with that IMDB rating I am at least going to check it out.

the good ratings are coming from fans of the TV show - it developed a cult following but supposedly it's like watching something on cable but in a movie theater. Think I'll skip it.

The writer/director/creator (Joss Whedon) also created Buffy The Vampire Slayer so no doubt lots of wiccan-wannabe Buffy freaks have voted for it without even seeing it yet...

Wrong, Firefly, originally aired on FOX, who didn't even show them in order nor the last four episodes. Sci Fi Channel picked up the series this summer.

i loved the show firefly, but in trying to go with a more movie-style format, i feel like joss rejected the things that defined the show - the feeling of family between the crew is gone at the very start as the captain tells the doctor that he and his sister are merely guests. and he also killed off two main characters - which i could have felt better about, but the deaths didn't seem to have a lot of function for the plot.

firefly was nothing like buffy - no occult, no wicca, no one main person, and no cloying love stories.

i've seen worse movies, but i was pretty disappointed.

I saw the Movie as soon as it came out. Awesome, answered a lot of questions. This movie was really geared towards Firefly fans (like me). They cancelled the season and I had to buy it on DVD just to see what we missed. Yup. great Movie.. However if you never saw the series on TV befor they cancelled it I can understand that you didn't like it.

There were tons of Firefly Fans in the audience and the movie was sold out. Like I said you had to see the series to really understand the movie

I'm another vote for loved it - but if you never watched Firefly don't bother. It's for the fans of the show - great Joss Whedon style humor and action.

gets very high ratings on the old tomato-meter........and a WHOPPING 95% on the user ratings, not the critics, who are at 80%

i am waiting until i have watched the entire series before i go see that, just got up to trash

so far "war stories" is my favorite eps. with the two saffron eps (our ms renyolds and trash being tied for second).

I will see the movie just to find out what the deal is with river.

It wasn't as fantastic as i thought it would be... as already mentioned in the thread.. it was a lot more like a cable show in the cinema rather than a big movie experience.. It made me want to watch the series though.. it's probably where it belongs. I mean.. I loved buffy.. but a movie would suck... how can you encapsulate all that goodness in 2 hours?
I was a bit underwhelmed.

*SPOILERS*

i am a bigtime firefly fan, and i didn't like serenity much. near the beginning, when mal was yelling at simon that he and his sister were guests - nope, sorry. i JUST rewatched every episode. mal is loyal for life once he considers you crew. so why would that have stopped suddenly considering simon crew? we've already established his long ties, even to fuckup deadweights. he's loyal to JAYNE, for crissake. and simon has saved everyone's life. no, for me, mal was turned into an unfriendly character - and kaylee was turned into a more bucolic country girl. and inara was turned into someone with less sparkle.

in fact, i felt that every single charater had less... um... character than he or she had in the series. the feeling of intimacy and family that defined firefly was not included. too bad :-( as i was REALLY looking forward to serenity.
