Sorry for another digital camera thread but the other ones didnt help very much..
I am not a content shooter or a professional photographer.. I want something that will shoot nice pics at home, outside, at night, etc... I also want it to be compact and easy to carry around. It would be nice to have a good optical zoom on it. It's gotta have a screen on the back (i guess almost all do). Shouldnt eat batteries too fast.. I dont think i wanna spend more than $500-550 on it unless i really belive its worth that much.. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated Lane

Lane,
I'm using a sony PC-110E. I'm quite happy with it. There's a nightvision function as well. Never have problems with it... Love your scripts BTW... Cu Boldy

Can anybody show me if they are able to adjust the depth of field with any of those sub-$1,000.00 digital cameras? I would really appreciate it.

the cam looked light and compact. it also has a good amount of zoom and megapixels.. i liked the specs. the additional memory card was also relatively cheap. got a 128mb one for only $70. and the thing looks pretty cool i think. cant wait to get it in the mail.

I recently got a Kodak DX3600 with a dock
It is affordable, takes movies with sound (unlimited time considering space), and great quality! |

I think we need to start a whole new section on GFY for cameras..... I have a Nikkon 995, and I love it. It's very easy to use for first timers. Takes great pictures - It's fast enough to catch water in mid-air.

Canon Powershot G2 - it's got a remote to click your own pictures! Plus it doubles as a webcam. You should get it just slightly over your budget. Great pics and resolution 4 Megapixels, plus it can accomodate the IBM microdrives for 1 gig storage when you need that much. The LCD screen swivels around every which way allowing you to take pics from any position, such as with the camera held high over the crowds with your hands.

honestly unless you are planning on printing the images... 2 MP is plenty... I always tell peeps to stick to "camera" makers b/c the lenses are of better quality... as for Sony... they do make very good products... but having to buy a memory stick vs a compact flash card can sometimes suck if you are out of country or in a small town... I'm sure your Sony will be just fine...
