Its amazing that people still don't see the connection. Its the same thing if a milkman became president and milk went to $10 a gallon.

You are ignoring the macro issues, but let's take your question at face value.

Yes, much higher. He supported higher taxes on gasoline, to some how make people not use as much.

Same misguided thinking I see everyday in Europe.

Taxation does not solve issues, it makes the pain much higher on those living on fixed budgets (lower incomes).

They would not.. Just like Clinton he would release a large chunk of the strategic reserve and piss off all of the Republicans because the gas price would only slightly fluctuate... Remember 10 years ago when it hit $2 a gallon and people shit their pants?

What REALLY sucks is that when the government sees that people will still pay this much for gas, it gives them incentive to not lower prices that much. they will figure that if we still bought gas and drove around just as much when it is 3 bucks a gallon, then we wouldnt bitch too much about it when it drops only about 50 cents. then that will become the AVERAGE price, and it will stay there. I hope my thinking is wrong.

Yes. Its inflation, price gouging, storms, Mid East tensions. They all contribute. Its not just Bush's ineptitude thats causing it.

Yep. This is right off of the GOP's website back then:

http://www.gop.gov/item-news.asp?docId=36898

Clinton Administration 'Napping' While Americans Assaulted With High Gas Prices

WASHINGTON March 17
The Clinton Administration has failed in its duty to develop a policy to deal with our national energy supply and is therefore directly accountable for the higher prices Americans are now paying at the gas pumps," Congressman Terry Everett, R-Enterprise, said Friday.

yeah, all those things are part of the problem too, but think about it, noone can deny the fact that bush has a financial interestin higher gas prices. therefore he will not fight as hard to keep gas prices down.

I especially liked when Clinton opened the SR on Sept 23, 2000. Nothing political about that...

Brother, we broke away from England a couple hundred years ago. If you can do it yourself please do not come here to bitch.

99 pence per liter ;) When I was there, this alone, made me want to leave. Aside from the raping on cigarettes, the rain, and the overall grab ass taxation mentality.

Rebel. Unfortunately, without guns, this is difficult. Align with the Shin Fein, that might help.

Who knows what would of happen? The funny thing is oil companies are making record profits , so one would have to figure their margins havent changed much.

I, for one, can't wait untill MikeyFingaz discloses the details of Bush's blind trust. He seems to had a ton of insider info. That or too much time to read bloggers with less info than he...

Speculative question. There's really no way to know unless all the variables faced by Bush where the same for Kerry. There's too many issues for any one person to control.

gas prices have nothing to fucking do with who the president is (to answer the original question) - its set by the futures market in Chicago based on world events.

Second - the emergency reserves were released last week -for those of you that obviously missed it

And yes - probably the current pres is making money off of the higher profits of the oil companies - and so are the rest of their stockholders - who would go ballistic if the oil companies lowered their prices - its all in the economics of making money for your stock investors - just like any good performing corporation - yeah it sucks in my opinion but they I guess that the 15 billion in profits they make every 3 months is good for their stock holders.

is it too complex of a concept for you to get that if you deal in the sales of a particular product, and said product starts to sell at much higher prices then you will profit more from it???

I dont claim to have insider info. but i got enough sense to know the laws of pricing and profit... Yet i digress, for I am not an experienced keyboard warrior. therefor I know that i cannot win this arguement. ;)

Oh, btw, I never said bush raised gas prices. I said that he would be less apt to fight to keep prices down due to his financial interest in higher prices.... read posts more carefully next time.

I doubt a democrat would have been that different in these circumstances. Both parties are corrupt. The big difference and the legacy which will be with us long after Bush are his Supreme Court appointees. We have not yet begun to bleed.

Economics 101 on why the republicans or oil companies don't give a fuck if they lose a few customers by raising the prices.

Raise your prices 10% and you need 28% less volume to make the same money. Raise them 20% and you need 44% less volume.

Lets see. An oil president is running the country and you don't think it makes a difference? You are fucking idiots.

Kinda funny, I saw just a little blurb in the paper and haven't seen anything since. Bush has thrown out epa standards for gas producers, due to the emergency. When do you think they will get put back into place?

It's like an alcoholic in charge of a liquor store.
