You must have done an edit or I was seeing things: #2 was "Island" at first

Anyhow, these ratings are almost always the same and most people from Norway and Iceland would disagree - there are too many factors that they don't take into account ... like how much sunlight!

Exactly. Nothing wrong with Norway, but 25+% VAT and 40+% import tax isnt what I call a country Id love to live in...

Damn... and I was just planning to move to Niger next month, I guess that's off.

andrej_NDC- You don't think those high taxes contribute to why it is one of the best places to live?

Hi... The list was on Norwegian, and I forgot to edit the country names to english. But I hope you understood what I mean.

The source is Human Development-rapport to UNs developingprogram (UNDP).

Living in Norway is pretty ok. But the taxes are high yes. Gas is now 1.8$ /L
The alcohol is MAD expencive! 50$ for 0,5l of vodka!

No. The wealthy (read: me) pays for the poor peoples healthcare, social security etc..
I personally pay tons of taxes and go to private hospitals and dentists. I get nothing for my big taxes I pay.

Your own extra-taxes compared to say USA are propably still way more what the cost of the bill would have been.

No, they also go to welfare and social security and lazy-ass government officials.

It's the same thing in finland and my high-taxes don't help me in any shape or form on a personal level.

it all depends on what factors they take into account

the best place to live for me would be a place with summer 365 days a year, no crime, exotic chicks, and high standard of living, I don't think such place exists though...

It's all about the quality of living... Norway is good because it has so much money from the oil. I prefer living outside Norway for a few different reasons, but the pure quality of stuff there is very visible whenever I come back. Oh, and the chicks are hot.

I had this discussion the other day, you should have read it.

I will summarize: Stop Listening To Your Politicians About Health Care!

Socialist cess pools always use the bogeyman approach to justify your taxes.

Do you know how much it costs for a 32 year old, male, non-smoker in the USA for health insurance? About $60 a month.

Feel free to google: "health insurance + online quote"

How much do you pay in taxes??

Additionally, your car wreck would have been covered under your auto insurance here. Personal Injury.

I always find those lists kind of silly. "Best country" is very subjective. We all value different things as individuals. Personally I dont mind paying high taxes because I dont feel bad about helping out my fellow citizens who are less fortunate. But then someone else will of course feel completely different about this issue.

So ... best country is the one YOU like living in. Except maybe for hell-holes like Burkina Faso.

yes just noticed as well ... wheres new zealand in that list?

Have you ever lived in the USA? Or do you get all your information from the TV and your Government spin to make your situation more acceptable?

Crime - Yes. Does it depend on where you live? Yes.

Hurricanes - Yes. Do they affect every state? No. Gulf Area + Lower Eastern Seaboard.

Earthquakes - Yes. Do they effect every state? No. California mainly.

Blizzards - Yes. Do they effect every state? No.

Fear? Only the bitches live in fear, this is not exclusive to any country. By your comments, you are a person that lives in fear.

Bush - He is not the problem, then entire federal government is the problem. Eliminate Washington, D.C. and USA would be #1 on this list.

Most top countries have high taxes and that is one of the reasons why the country is well taken care of and everyone is covered at least for the basics of life.

Its doesnt really cost cost 60 dollars unless it has a 5000 deductible and for most people that minds well be 100,000

$2500 deductible.

This is for a private person, not company funded (i.e. discounts).

The point of my post was, does 40% taxation = value for money on health care.

We could go for eons on the bad parts of the health care system in the USA, which does have far too many problems. But is the solution a system maintained by the government which inherently wastes money?

Touche'

Some would say the US government is entirely to blame for the situation we have at hand.

Please first tell us all how long you have lived in the US, before we can accept your comments as being first hand and based on your years of experience living within the US borders.

Except in the USA you would have died because you didn't have the money to pay the bill to begin with.

Its just like the top 100 best computer games of all time lists, or those top lists Forbes does. I only care about lists that are about exact statistics, otherwise its all relative.

Feel free to google: "health insurance + online quote"
BULLSHIT. Try DOUBLE that at least. And that's for a $500 deductable and I'd still have to pay 20%. Hell it costs me $96 a month to cover my 10 year old who is healthy as a horse with a $500 deductable through blue cross and I'm still pay 20%. If my kid doesn't get $2000 worth of sick each year I'm losing money on this deal. Of course if I didnt have insurance the doctors wouldn't see him at all.

Additionally, your car wreck would have been covered under your auto insurance here. Personal Injury.
One would assume that people that can't afford health insurance do not have car insurance.

First, in all but a couple states in the union, driving without insurance is a Felony. So your comment is invalid.

You state your child is as healthy as a horse. Why is he on a $500 deductible? This is throwing money out the window.

Your math is also fucked up. You state you pay $96 a month (12 * $96 = $1152) + a $500 deductible = $1652.

You do realize that if you moved him to a $2500 deductible, the premium would go to $40 a month ($480 a year).

This is all insurance 101, but feel free to complain more, while throwing more money out the window.

Now factor a 5% or 10% increase in Federal Taxes to pay for socialized medicine. Which will cost you more money? $500 a year on an insurance policy, or $xxxxxx dollars in taxes.

And so my cards are on the table I have a $5000 deductible catastrophic policy that I have had for 7+ years ($30 a month). Do you see the cost savings on this for someone who, as you say, "Is Healthy As A Horse"? Unfortunately people who live in countries with socialized medicine no not have this CHOICE (to not pay the taxes and pay their own way).

Unfortunately in this country, we spend far too much time bitching about things and looking for Mommy to help us, than educating people on how to money manage, and maintain their own lives...
