Supreme Court Rules Cities Can Take Your Home

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...301067_pf.html

Okay, I checked the board didn't see a post about it so don't give me any shit.

Basically your home is not safe. If the city feels it can make money off it they can take your land. Plain and simple. If you build a great house with your own sweat and blood some developer fuck can petition the city you live in that your land can turn a better buck like taxes and shit.

Fuck you, your shit is scapped up and you get 'compensated'.

Americans have just gotten royally fucked stupid and have no damned clue.

I mean yeah, there were laws on the books for when land had to be acquired but this new twist smells like big business over the sanctity of the home.

Fine, you want my land and home? Take it, money grubbing shitsticks. Guranteed you won't WALK away with it. You're gonna pay me, and then you're gonna pay someone to go over all 54 acres with a fine tooth comb in order to locate the explosives.

Bring it.

It sounds like their preparing the world for the upcoming class wars. When 30-40% unemployment hits, how close do you want that ex munitions manufacturer living to your $500,000 home.

They pay you. And they have been able to do this for years. I had 2 buidlings condemned. It was a huge boon. The tax code gives you 2 years to roll it over tax free.

Tala you speak for me!!!

With oil hitting $60 a barrel for no damned reason other than oil men are in power and all the top news anchormen out of commission within the same fucking 3 month period and with the FBI at war with the CIA, a mad scientist terrorist dude hiding out in Pakistan who wants us all dead, Korean warlords preparing to launch bio weapons at us, gangs going berserk in LA ( for the 70th year straight ), it's no mystery that the Supreme Court of right wingers would allow some shit like this. It was close I might add at 5-4 and I for one will damn sure look at who voted for what.

Now they've gone and arrested comedian Chris Tucker for some shit on video even!

I have no sympathy for the American people anymore as they've just proven what our enemies have been saying all along. We're so sorry-assed that we allow criminals to run roughshod over us and we watch it on tv and don't do shit.

For sure a sad day. Affects me directly. There is going to come a point where the people have had it with losing rights and start paying attention to local politics too. Some politians will loose bad. There is an area that will go unnamed, but the stench of the "good ole boy network" would kill a horse. Fine if you're an insider I guess. Exactly where do we buy those land mines?

You realize that in many states this prolly means they can take your property at assit value as listed on your realestate taxes. RIP!!!! So now you 54 acres is what?? 100k$????? Depends on where you are and how they value land for taxes. Why not just do it str8 up and lower the percentage of tax? Never really made sense to me here in the midwest.

Slapass, what you're discussing is something different. We're talking eminent domain and I can guarantee you it won't stop at your land, it'll go over to anything you own. If it can be sensed as a threat to the status quo they'll steal it from you.

That's how the Civil War started.

Pussyluver, this new law is different because it allows states to seize YOUR shit for PRIVATE industry developement. Get it? PRIVATE. As long as a private company proves it's for the better good meaning they can prove they can make more money than you do. Only Justice O'Connor wrote a scathing condemnation.

I don't think people will fight against the system. They're too mind controlled. Have you looked at the mean IQ level of the average American? We've had two generations of the dumb breeding the dumb.

Either we fight now or we'll end up like Springfield like the Simpsons.

Of course!!! You KNOW it's gonna happen and you KNOW there's gonna be hell to pay when it does. When you look at who owns and invests in the real estate you'll see it's a bunch of foreigners who are basically telling their Republican asschew throwback wadswallowin flunkies that if they don't screw us over there won't be any buttbabies to fuck overseas.

You mark MY words, don't be surprised if you see the Confederate Flag appearing all over the country includine Black people wearin' it!

It wouldn't surprise me a bit.

"He was joined in his opinion by other members of the court's liberal wing ? David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer, as well as Reagan appointee Justice Anthony Kennedy, in noting that states are free to pass additional protections if they see fit.

The four-member liberal bloc typically has favored greater deference to cities, which historically have used the takings power for urban renewal projects."

This is what is freaking me out...liberal is just as power hungry as conservatives. Jesus, who is good for country.

We are talking the same thing. When they take property through eminent domain. they "condemn" it. They have to pay you market value based on current use. Then you get 2 years to roll it over tax free.

Slapass I know what you're talking about but this is different. This new decision puts PRIVATE acquisition on the same par as Government.

This has already taken place multiple times over the years. In the past people have been killed by law enforcement for shooting at law enforcement when they refused to be evicted from their land after the courts ruled that the government could take their land. This is not a new law...it is in the constitution...but has been expanded somewhat...and has been excercised time and time again over the years.

BTW this was not a decision by the right wingers on the court...the most notable ones dissented.

From what I gather...those that voted in favor...felt that government acquistion for public use was for the "greater good" thus government acquistion for private enterprise to proceed for the "greater economic good" of the community is appropriate. Bottom line it is a expansion on the "greater good".

Jumpin' Jehosophat!!! TheKing you hit the nail right on the head. This is what happened during the Dust Bowl years prior to the Great Depression! It's almost the same scenario! This time however the abolished demon isn't alcohol it's dope. Make it illegal and the price skyrockets. Back then people's farms were scapped up left and right by more corporate barons etc. you should watch a classic called "The Grapes Of Wrath" to see what I mean.

Liberals on the Supreme Court my ass. They're fake. The Democratic Party is fucked up because right wing lackeys undermind it. If the liberals were that powerful on the Supreme Court Bush wouldn't have been elected. Don't let that "I'm a Liberal" shit fool you.

This new law is nothing more than another step to sell us out. LOOK at who owns your debts and medical insurance. They're Chinese, Israeli, Saudi, etc. etc. etc. We're OWNED by everybody EXCEPT us! We're being fucked royally and OWNED.

Sit back and let this shit happen to you if you want to.

Oh I know where this fucked up philosophy comes from. Like some 'Star Trek' socialist horseshit! If they were that fucking interested in the public good we wouldn't have drugs, gangs, crooked cops etc. Let me see them put that much energy into getting rid of real crime as they do in stealing the average man's shit and I'll be impressed.

Times like this I wish Bo and Luke Duke and Uncle Jesse and Daisy were here to give them politicians 'what fer'.

You got that right girlfriend! They want to take away our guns and ammo as it is. Makes it easier for foreign powers to put the arm on us!

I cannot believe how fucking stupid and half assed we've become as a country. We have people waltzing over the borders like it's nothing and bizarre evil villains running amok blowing up shit and now our own highest court lays down a decisions that's about as brilliant as wiping your ass with a broken arm.

$60 a barrel for oil??? Cities can take your home??? 6'4" bright ass white towel turbaned madmen no one can find???

Now we know why aliens won't land, they don't want to be contaminated with our dumbassedness.

Bottom line: "Greater economic good" is a Walmart over most neighborhoods.
The ruling basically overturned the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits the taking of property by government except for "public use." That means now instead of only being allowed to take property for public projects big businesses will be able to come in and claim an area is economically depressed (could be said for most of the country) and the government can take low and sell high

People need to wakeup and pay attention to this. Either rise up or except tyranny because this is the start of it.

Yep! Not only that but that's what used to happen to blacks, women, and other minorities when they had land some greedy bastard wanted. Especially happened to Native Americans all the time.

The government acquiring land for the public is one thing, but for private industries??? FUCK NO.

Yet after watching today's "Jerry Springer Show" I now remember why our country is so fucked up.

Sit back and let this shit happen to you if you want to.
What you're not taking into consideration is that the US government will probably do the same to foreign governments as they are doing now to their own people.

The Saudi's think they "own" land in America, in the same way that US citizens think they "own" land here now? There's nothing to prevent this gov't from revoking their claim of "ownership". There's nothing that these other countries could do if the US decided to default on their debts. What are they going to do, try to collect debts from a country that could nuke them out of existance within the hour? I think they'll continue "loaning" money to the US and I doubt they'll get it back.

Don't take this the wrong way, I in no way personally support this idealogy, but this is what seems to be happening.

You guys are missing the other side of this. Putting together large land deals is very hard in this country. Every level of govt gets input and a piece of it. Wether it is private or public is very blurred by requirements for green space and run off etc. This law will prevent some dope with a 70 year old 2 br bungalow from holding up a big public works or a large commercial deal because he is rooted to his shit hole.

The is frequently used by local govt to put together larger land deals that are then used by the private sector. this just makes that more open.

The most obvious good thing that this used for is freeways. You could not make them with out this law.

The point is that the 70 year old should be able to keep his shit hole if he wants to, otherwise he never really 'owned' it in the first place, and neither will whoever occupies it next.

What this really does is leave too much wiggle room for blatant corruption since any private holding could periodically be seized and sold to a new owner. It's easy to justify that any new project is good for the local economy if it's going to keep people employed consrtucting new buildings for new owners in the same spot every few years.

Wait a second, you guys are missing the boat on this one.

This was voted in by liberals. This is the liberal democrat agenda. No private ownership!

First the opposed private healthcare, then they opposed private Social security. This is a pattern.

Hate the president all you want, but realize that when you vote for liberal democrats, you are encouraging decisions like this.

Big government is not the way to go.
